Dr”s confusing Me

when I last seen my Gp l was on 75 mg thyroid medication and he told to take it till June this year. I then feel ill not being able to swallow food and seen another Dr only to be told l was taking too much thyroid medication. I then spoke to my Gp and he already put a blood test on the system for me to have in March today l get a phone call from the lady Dr saying l it’s low and I have to take 50 mg Monday 75 mg Tuesday Wednesday 50mg Thursday 75mg Friday 50mg Saturday 75 Sunday 50 l find this strange. Both the Dr”s work in the same clinic. Kindly advise where can I have a private blood test done in Croydon for thyroid

Why dont you obtain your own results first & see what results both doctors are are looking at to base their judgement of your treatment.

Were you well on 75mcg?   (Would be mcg not mg) 

Are you taking any other medication or any supplements?   

Do you take them away from Levo? 

What is your HBA1c result?

Did the reduction in levo change symptoms? 

It might be clear from the results what next step should be, but if doctors aren’t going by complete information then you can look at private testing.

Many do use private home fingerprick tests (extra fee for venous draw at clinics or at home).  As often only way to obtain full thyroid testing as GPs often won’t test everything such as FT3 & Vitamin D.  

For thyroid test for consistency it’s recommended you fast overnight, book draw for close to 09.00.  Stop any supplements containing biotin 3 days before as biotin can skew results. Is this how you test?

Thank you for your reply. I didn’t go to see the Lady doctor for thyroid. I went to see her because I was having difficulty eating. She then said that I should have a blood test done she found out that I was taking too much of the thyroid medication. before that I called the doctor that I see and asked him why wasn’t he reducing the medication he said l should stay on it till June this year and then he will reduce it . I then called him to tell him and he then said I have arranged a blood test for you to have.why because he knew I was right

I was well on £75 micro gram . I do take vitamin D3 but that doesn’t seem to agree with me, but the doctor says to keep taking it, but I don’t. I don’t see no change. Before blood tests l don’t take the thyroid tablet where can I get a finger test please

important to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin at least once a year

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

When were vitamin levels last tested

Which brand of Levothyroxine are you currently taking

75mcg is low dose

Approximately how much do you weigh in kilo

See exactly what recent GP tests show first

Frequently only TSH tested and that’s completely inadequate

Next step is to get full thyroid and vitamin testing

Doctors really don't talk to each other about patients, I ve found that out😠 you can go around in circles with them, one telling one thing and another totally dismissing what the other one said 🤯 even me telling my gp I'd be taken of T3 by another gp at this surgery, his answer "ho have you" didn't even ask why😠
