thyroid test results
You’re not on any thyroid hormones?
was test done early morning ideally around 9am
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once
Ask GP to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin
About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.
Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.
Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)
20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis
In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

You are legally entitled to actual results and ranges on blood test results
You have recently had Ferritin, folate , Vitamin D & B12 tested
Get results off receptionist
Get BOTH thyroid antibodies tested privately via Medichecks or Blue horizon
I got the advance thyroid test from monitor my health, doesn’t look live they sent me them?
to test BOTH TPO and TH thyroid antibodies you need Medichecks or Blue Horizon test
See if you can get vitamin results from receptionist first
Medichecks thyroid including both antibodies
I will chase up those test. Do you assess them on here?
yes
It’s essential to test thyroid antibodies at least once if thyroid disease is suspected
Approx 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease
Unfortunately Monitor My Health (being a private NHS service) only tests TPO antibodies
Significant minority of autoimmune thyroid patients only have high TG antibodies
Medichecks and Blue Horizon will test both antibodies
I have ME and it was suggested in dr my hill group because I feel so sluggish in the winter that I might have a thyroid problem. So I’m trying to eliminate things. On these results the dr will say I’m haven’t hypothyroidism ? I’m going to chase up sept tests plus the vitamin test to see if there is a difference then go from there, I’m told your thyroid needs more help in the winter.
These results are indeed within the normal range but may not be normal for you.
Free T4 (fT4) 16 pmol/L (12 - 22) 40.0%
Free T3 (fT3) 4.7 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 43.2%
Your TSH is slightly above 2, plus free numbers under 50% of range so it's possible your thyroid might be struggling.
Did you also get your key vitamin levels tested? Ferritin, folate, B12 & d3? They are also very important.
no I didn’t get b12 or other tested. I’m taking b12 privately, but haven’t felt anything, I’m on 3000iu d3 and k2. I had advanced test via monitor my health, don’t look like it’s been fully done. I will req older test results via the surgery. Maybe I might give metafive a go?

They will be classed as normal by a doctor because they are within range.
A normal healthy person without a thyroid condition would generally have TSH around 1, no more than 2, with FT4 around mid-range-ish. This is a generalisation and not set in stone, we are all individuals so our own normal could be very different frlom someone else's.
Unfortunately we are not tested for a baseline in health so we don't know what our own normal is.
Your results suggest that your thyroid may be starting to struggle (or they may be your normal levels) but unfortunately they wont get you a diagnosis of hypothyroidism. If you had over range TSH with symptoms of hypothyroidism then that would be classed als subclinical but still wouldn't get you a diagnosis until you had 2 x over range TSH results .
