Eimear78,
That's because most research/articles refers to insulin resistance in the state of hyperthyroidism as the result of over-regulated heptic influence, but the driving mechanisms are exactly the same regarding high T3 levels. Your previous labs and test timings indicated over-range T3 levels and you have cortisol issues which is used in the managing of blood glucose levels.
My forth reply in this post offers info about insulin resistance ... healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
Regarding building muscle you need adequate T3 that is working effectively, ie alleviating symptoms, which will encourage more protein synthesis, muscle growth and mitochondria (power factories that burn calories and increase the basal metabolic rate (BMR).) When thyroid hormone isn't working effectively, ie you are symptomatic, you will be compromising the adrenal glands further by exercising hard. If you exercise late afternoon when your saliva test levels were shown as lowest your body will supply adrenaline instead and encourage protein breakdown as well as interfering with a good HPA axis signal.
