Reason for raised Platelets?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone here with Hashimoto or any other health issue, have raised platelet levels from a blood test?

PLATELETS

Feb 2022: 469 10*9/L [Range:150 - 410 10*9/L]

Dec 2022: 491 10*9/L [Range:150 - 410 10*9/L]

Mine were shown to be elevated in Feb this year with my GP ignoring it saying it's "normal" for me. I now have a new GP who says that the raised platelets isn't right so sent me for more bloods this week and the Platelets have increased even more. I won't get a GP appointment for a few weeks and feel worried as to what it could be.

I see a private Endo separately (from March 2022) and he prescribes me thyroid meds (Armour) for Hashimoto, which work well for me. I have an MRI booked next month to check for endometriosis or anything else they can pick up in my groin and pelvis as I am in constant agony all around that area and it prevents me for exercising and walking more that about 10mins.

Does anyone else have the same issue with the raised platelets?

Thank you

What are your most recent thyroid and vitamin results?

Endometriosis and Hashimoto’s may be linked

Higher playlets often linked to hashimoto’s

Hi SlowDragon :)

My recent thyroid results get sent to me via letter from my endo with his invoice but I haven't received it yet because of the postal strikes. I saw my endo last week and he said my levels are now very stable now that I am on Armour and not ERFA. I will update when they arrive :)

My GP blood results (from Tuesday this week) were mainly for the raised platelets but she included a check for B12 and Folate which are:

B12

300 ng/L [Range:180 - 640 ng/L]

Serum Folate

16.2 µg/L [Range:3 - 20 µg/L]

Also, my GGT levels are very raised:

GGT

118 iu/L [Range:0 - 38 iu/L]

I have some kind of blockage of some sort in my groin area and I haven't been taken seriously by my NHS GP with the them saying to me "it's your mind causing this".....so patronising. So, I have had to pay privately for an MRI to try and find it our for myself as it genuinely feels like it is suffocating me and trapping the flow of my blood and lymph. I have tried Physio, lymph massage, sauna's etc. and it all makes it feel worse so I hope I can find what it is.

God knows what is going on.

Thank you for your help x

B12 too low

No ferritin

No vitamin D

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Oh, really? Even though the B12 is middle of the range?

Sorry, I forgot to include Ferritin:

FERRITIN

92 µg/L [Range:15 - 200 µg/L]

Me Endo done all of my vitamins including Vit D so I will get that result within the letter. Postie has been and gone so hoping will receive in the next few days.

This is the list of what my NHS GP done bloods for on Tuesday:

'Pathology Request (Request Sent):

CA125 (Requested), CRP (Requested), ESR (D) (Requested), ESR to request (Requested), Full Blood Count (Requested), Ferritin (Requested), Blood Film (Requested), Folate: Patient not on Supplement (Requested), Gamma GT (GGT) (Requested), Liver Function Tests (LFTs) (Requested), Iron Studies (Requested), B12 No Supplement (Requested

I've been through this same treatment from doctors - being patronised, condescended to, dismissed, disbelieved.

After my hysterectomy (back in the 1990s) the surgeon wrote a letter which states, amongst other things, that I had "very severe endometriosis". I also had adenomyosis. I had just been repeatedly dismissed as a crazy, hysterical, drug-seeking, hypochondriac.

During my many years of trying to get help for the excruciating pain I was in I did have the occasional X-Ray, ultrasound scan, MRI scan. But the endometriosis and adenomyosis didn't show up on any of them. The only way endometriosis can be discovered is by having a laparoscopy, and even then you need an experienced surgeon to know what they are looking for. And the other problem is that for decades now any endometriosis that is found during laparoscopy is usually treated by being burnt off with a laser. (I think this is called ablation - and there are many doctors and surgeons who still think this is the state of the art in treating endometriosis.) Unfortunately this doesn't work. It just adds internal burns and scarring to the patient's problems. The best treatment for endometriosis is excision i.e. cutting out and complete removal of the affected tissue.

Some useful links...

Despite the fact that the doctors and surgeons who are members of the above organisation are supposed to be the experts in treating endometriosis I would want to know if they actually removed endometriosis or still thought giving it a tan with a laser was the best treatment.

One of the early pioneers of excision surgery was/is a now-retired surgeon called David Redwine. His old website is still interesting.

Low B12 symptoms

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

methyl-life.com/blogs/defic...

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a B12 supplement as well as a B Complex (to balance all the B vitamins) initially for first 2-4 months.

once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

Interesting that in this research B12 below 400 is considered inadequate

A week or so after starting separate B12, consider adding a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

Thorne currently not available or very expensive (normally £20)

If you want to try a different brand in the meantime, SeasideSusie recommeded one with virtually identical doses of the ingredients, and bioavailable too, then take a look at Vitablossom Liposomal B Complex. Amazon sometimes has it branded Vitablossom but it's also available there branded as Yipmai, it's the same supplement

or available as Vitablossom brand here

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate methyl folate supplement and continue separate B12
