Dizziness

I am currently suffering with dizziness especially when I first get up. I can feel my heart beating fast in my tummy area. It’s so scary and can come out of the blue when I am standing. I just had my TSH tested and it was 0.85. I also have acid reflux and keep belching all the time, just waiting to have a camera down to see what’s causing it. The PPI’s were making it worse.

I recently had all my bloods checked by a neurologist because I have areas of numbness and they were all normal. Doesn’t anyone suffer anything similar and have any advice. My blood pressure does rise a bit when I stand up. Many thanks 😊

4 months ago :

TSH: 1.27

FT4: 19 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22)

FT3 3.92 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8) and it was recommended you try an increase in Levothyroxine from 75mcg to 100mcg/ consider seeing an endocrinologist who might support a trial of T3.

What is your current thyroid medication dosage?

Thank you for your reply. I am currently seeing a GP. I did tell them my T4 was high and T3 was low but they didn’t want to know. I am currently on 75mg thyroxine. My TSH was normal at 0.85 so they won’t do any further tests. All my bloods were normal but my folate was low at 3.6 the range was 3 - 20. My RDW was 11.8 and the range was 11.6 - 14 and my MCHC which is something to do with my red blood cells was 349 and the range was 315 to 345. I did a 24 hour urine test and just waiting for the results.

I cannot afford to see a endocrinologist and I don’t think my GP will refer me because of my TSH result. I am also keeping a log of my blood pressure, it’s seems fine when I am sitting down but does go up when I stand up. It’s all so scary as I don’t know what’s going on.

Were you taking B complex before low folate result or only started since low folate result

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules.

(You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endo.confex.com/endo/2016en...

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate methyl folate supplement and separate B12

At very least get TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 tested once you have improved low folate

Monitor My Health (NHS private test service) currently has 20% off until midnight tonight

Buy now ….test after Christmas

monitormyhealth.org.uk/thyr...

Test early morning, before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Get thyroid test results …..assuming Ft3 is still far too low ….request/insist on referral to thyroid specialist endocrinologist of your choice from the list

Private consultation is approx £250

I would suggest getting your BP checked out by a GP if you are concerned. They should take it sitting, and standing at least. Blood pressure normally drops slightly on standing due to gravity. It can indicate an issue with your cardiovascular system but I emphasise the can bit. Best to get it checked out.

I am currently logging my readings once a day. My blood pressure is OK sitting but when I stand it goes up the top reading is fine but the bottom reading can go up to 90.

Do you have enough Levo to increase it yourself, to 100mcg? It might help the T3 to rise, we have many members who've had cardio issues due to low T3, which have resolved once they get their T3 levels up.

suggest you reread previous post here

Retest FULL thyroid and vitamin testing before booking consultation

Likely to need to get private consultation

NHS waiting time is around a year

As only TSH was tested, you don’t have a full picture of your thyroid health. I would retest privately when you are able. Medichecks are often discounted on Thursdays so maybe worth checking then.

I successfully raised my folate by supplementing with Thorne basic b complex. This resolved many of my adverse symptoms.

thank you. I am taking Bio Care B-Complex liquid form.

Acid reflux is classic hypothyroid symptom, strongly linked to low Ft3

All four vitamins need to be tested and at OPTIMAL levels

What were most recent vitamin D, B12 and ferritin results and ranges

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Do you normally take levothyroxine waking or bedtime

Are you on strictly gluten free diet and/or dairy free diet

Thank you for your reply and advice. My vitamin D was 96 (not sure of the range) my Ferritin was 84 - range 15 - 200 ug/l and B12 was 534 - range 180 - 640 ng/l.

I am taking 50mg Accord and 25mg Mercury.

I take my thyroxine in the morning an hour or two before I get up. I am strictly gluten free and I do have dairy but not too much I replace my milk on my cereals with coconut milk.

So B12, vitamin D and ferritin look pretty good

Was this with taking supplements?

Or natural levels

Testing TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together essential

Many many people, on levothyroxine, especially post menopause need addition of T3 (liothyronine) prescribed alongside levothyroxine

Most people when adequately treated will have Ft4 and Ft3 at least 70% through range

Yes I was having B12 injections privately and take vitamin D with K2 drops. Now I just take B complex, D with K2 , C, Omega 3 oil, selenium and zinc.

The indigestion is getting me down, as I keep belching all the time and get fluttering in my stomach, it just doesn’t feel right. I have been waiting weeks for an appointment to have a camera put doesn’t to see what’s going on. I recently stopped Nexium which I think has made it worse. I also have numb areas below my knee, my little toe and round my tummy. Really strange, I have to have nerve testing for this. Don’t know if it’s all connected.

Yes definitely

Thousands of posts on here discussing low stomach acid as direct result of being hypothyroid/inadequate dose levothyroxine

Low Ft3 results in ongoing hypothyroid symptoms

Most GP’s and most endocrinologists don’t understand this

Vast majority of endocrinologists are diabetes specialists and useless for anything other than bog standard hypothyroidism

Poor conversion of Ft4 to Ft3 results in high Ft4 and lowish TSH……unless you test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together it’s impossible for a medic to recognise what’s going on

Come back with new post once you get all three tested together

You will need thyroid specialist endocrinologist - there are a few who are private and NHS on the list
