Too soon?

I’ve been on Armour 1.5 grains for over four weeks and whilst I’m feeling better, less tired, mood is better and I’m even cleaning the house, properly😎 I seem to be putting more weight on. Worse than that is the bloating, it’s really uncomfortable and all I can say is thank goodness for leggings. Not to forget I’m weeing like there’s no tomorrow, not so much more often but when I go it’s like the tap’s been turned full on 😂.

I’m so happy to have more energy and as I’m moving around more I’d thought my weight would have dropped slightly in a perfect world rather than put on weight! btw I’ve not got a huge appetite and rarely snack. Any thoughts?

J 🥰🥰🥰

Hello Joan :

It is early days so just go low and slow - are you still increasing 1/4 grains ?

Are you monitoring on blood pressure, pulse and temperature twice daily to help you find your right dose ?

Presume you took bench mark readings before you started this experiment and have a THS, T3 and T4 to compare to in due course and that your ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D are optimal :

I didn't notice my weight reduction until around 6 - 12 months into NDT and then realised I had lost round 2 dress sizes - and an added bonus :

thank you pennyannie for cheering me up, it gives me hope even if I have to wait a while to lose some weight, I’ve had to buy new clothes!

I’m not sourcing my own, I’ve a Doctor who put me on Armour and I’ve got all my Medichecks bloods going back a few years. I started on one grain a day split and moved up to one in the morning and half in the afternoon. Had a jittery days here and there but they seem to have mostly passed. My next appointment is at the beginning of January so we’ll see how I am then.

I do know I could not have cleaned our bedroom so thoroughly (and it certainly needed it!!!) before I was taking these pills and I’m slowly working my way around the house. It’s helping I bought some fancy cleaning products that smell wonderful to cheer me on 😂

My vitamins are work in progress but I’m struggling to fit everything in what with taking NDT twice a day.

Also, I wear a Fitbit that helps keep an eye on my heart rate which as gone from 61 to 66 bpm resting

Thanks for replying, much appreciated. 🥰

purely for my own NDT experiment that’s about to start, how many hours do you leave between your 2 doses?

My pill bottle says “ one to be taken in the morning and take half a tablet between 2-3pm. “. Although important to say I worked up to that slowly. I usually wake up around 7am and take it then unless I wake up for a wee at 6am, and take it, go back to sleep then I can eat my breakfast straight away at 7 to 7.30. The afternoon dose is moveable between 2 and 3 depending on when I had lunch.

Hope this helps 🥰

I used to be so bloated, ( and constipated) I looked 7 months pregnant. Found out I had SIBO and it was suggested that I try Atrantil.

They helped straightaway and my stomach is now much more comfortable. ( I get mine online from Supplement Hub for about £39 for 90 tablets.)

I also took Armour for a year and the 3 stone I had gained over the previous few years on T4 only, was finally shifted. I couldn't afford to keep self funding though and had to return to NHS levo. All the weight was back within 6 months even though I didn't alter my diet or exercise less.🥵

It is early days for you (I was up to 3 grains) and everyone is different, but the fact that you already have more energy is a positive sign.

Re the weeing, I'm afraid I can't help with that one.

Take care and good luck.

thanks for reply, hopefully weight issue will be resolved. I’m interested to know how you get tested for SIBO? I’ve had terrible bloating for quite a few years, been on a stupid amount of antibiotics over many years and even though I’ve always taken a probiotic it might not have been enough. I also have a diverticulitis pouch which when inflamed is quite painful. These are just a few triggers I saw when I looked it up. I shall definitely look into this as the bloating and vast amounts of wind I get in the evening (thank goodness my husband just chuckles 😂🤭) can be very embarrassing. Thanks again and so sad you couldn’t keep taking Armour, it’s wrong on so many levels that Doctors aren’t open minded enough to make changes and the NHS isn’t farsighted enough to pay for these types of medication and stop patients needing repeat visits etc that cost far more in the long run. That’s my rant over for today. Take care 🥰

I find the NHS unfit for purpose on so many levels now so I went direct to the ibsandsiboclinic. I've been fobbed off and gaslighted so often in the past, on issues which later turned out to be bona fide, that I try to avoid it as much as I can. My SIBO practitioner is Olga Hamilton and she has a specific interest in thyroid patients. I bought my breath test online and posted it back before having my follow up appointment on the phone. You can also have zoom appointments or in person if you live close to London. Ouch, you have my sympathies re the diverticulitis. I've had a couple of flare ups in the past, so I know how it feels.

I hope you find the help you need. Good luck and take care, x
