I’ve had low DHEA and my Endo prescribed 50mcg DHEA for me. I also take 4 grains of NDT and 100 Oestrogen.
The DHEA has worked really well and my DHEA is now well in range 250 (106-300). However, now my testosterone is raised to 2.7 (<1.2). The lovely SlowDragon , sent me material that suggested DHEA can raise testosterone, and, as a woman, that’s probably not good?
So my question is, would Pregnenolone be a better choice than DHEA? I have an appointment my a menopause specialist in a week and with my Endo in 3 weeks.
Thank you

preg may be better if it converts okay, the problem with preg for some is it can in the words of Dr Peatfield go to places you may not want it to go , it may give you more DHEA or not or it may give you more of something ie hormones you don’t need. Some docs suggest after being on preg for a while to test all the other hormones it potentially converts into to to monitor. Hertoghe thinks Preg doesn’t convert so well to other hormones once we are a bit older, ie not as good as in young people. Also some people don’t feel so well on Preg. Eg me. You can test Pregnenolone via Medichecks but expensive.
Your DHEA is well up the range, 50 mg is quite high dose for female , my partner is on 20mg, I think you can get 10mg or 30mg. Hertoghe reckons when testing DHEA if your taking it to for 3 nights before the test to take it at bedtime ie approx 8 hours before test as he reckons it peaks about 8 hrs after dosing, I don’t know if I agree with that but maybe worth thinking about, it can cause hair loss if too high dose.
