Hair loss: Hello has anyone experienced hair loss... - Thyroid UK
Hair loss
Losing outer third of eyebrow is a common hypo symptom. Do you have thyroid blood tests to share? Have you tested key vitamins (ferritin, folate, B12 and vit D)? Mine have grown back (although still thin) since optimising thyroid levels and key vitamins.
Others have posted on this before
mine have always been thin but now very thin, I draw them on, wonderful makeup artist called Aaron on the Lancôme counter in Debenhams showed me how a few years ago. I think they have grown back A bit but I still fill them out 🦋💚🦋
highly recommend micro blading!
I have appointment set up but a bit nervous ughhh lol did it hurt? Someone said I could have an allergic reaction but I've never heard of anyone having reaction
haha … I’m the biggest baby ever….but it was a durable pain….like a scratch which of course is what it is….once done I thought what have I done as they were quite dark and it took Some getting used to having eye eye browns again…. Done about 3 years ago and still going strong …. I have certainly never regretted it! I hope you love yours as much as I Love mine x
I wish that mine had, now a days my eyebrow hair grows so fast I can only just manage if I use scissors to help me manage I normally pluck them out once a week starting with the thick grey ones to start with then if I have time I go onto the brown thiner ones then if I am running out of time I brush them upwards then use scissors to trim the whatever are left and by the next time they are just as bad. In the past I had electrolysis on my chin and top lip I had this twice a week for an hour each time but after a couple of weeks of not going when I took a look my face was as bad as before I started going, so I gave up due to the cost as the charge was £15 per 15 minute session they only had a price for 15 minutes as they said no one could stand it for any longer and several would get up after just a few hairs stating that it was to painful, to start off they would only let me book for 15 minutes then they let me book for 30 minutes and eventually they let me book for an hour at a time they would not let me book for more than an hour due to the person doing it had to have a break as it caused them to bend over to do it, on one session the woman doing it said she had never seen or heard of someone who went to sleep whilst it was carried out when I was woken up I had the whole staff watching me sleeping whilst it was done i told them that due to all of the painkillers I had to take that it dulled the pain.
when I went back after my break I said that it did not seem to be working so I gave up and just returned to shaving which I hated I had been thinking of joining a circus as the bearded woman as I was sure that if I just stopped that I would be able to grow a decent beard but as yet I have not had the nerve to do it.
Good luck finding a way to control your problem.
Regards Poppy Ann
Yes, I have lost most of my left eye brow, the worst part being the inner 3rd nearest my nose which has gone bald. Eyebrows started falling out after my free T3 dropped below range last year and hasn't really recovered. I finally have what looks to be much better free T3 levels and am feeling better so I'm hoping they will start growing back. Some people have had very good results with a derma roller...some people even saying it brought back eyebrows they over plucked many years ago so I have just started derma rolling as well and hopefully it will wake them up a bit. According to pubmed, minoxidil can also have good results for eyebrows and I may try that yet too x
I've never heard of derma roller I've heard of minoxidil good luck to you

Also known as micro needling is used professionally in the hair and skin industry.
Yes, mine non existent due to under active thyroid. I have a more gentle version of micro blading called powder brows. Looks subtle and soft like makeup. Have it topped up every year and highly recommend.
I have graves which is hyper and I have lost the outer edges of my eyebrows. I usually keep them a bit on the thin side so that it doesn’t look odd.
Hi, yes, mine have gradually got thinner and thinner, the outer edge is non-existent. I just use a soft brown eyebrow pencil. I rarely need to pluck them. I'm 65 so don't really worry about it any more!
I also don't have any hair under my arms, or on my legs. Still saves shaving/waxing, anyway!
It all just gradually disappeared, I suddenly realised I don't need to shave anymore.
Thankfully, the hair on my head hasn't gone as well, though it is fine.
I was initially ruled out as having thyroid issues because I had more than a third missing from my eyebrows. I’ve never found anything that has helped to be honest.
Mine sort of grew back after I started NDT. The problem is they grow at 90 degrees to my face so I look like a mad professor. My nose hairs on the other hand - just think dreadlocks...
mine went incredibly thin and sparse, but on advice, I started rubbing a little castor oil into them each night and within a month I had new growth where they had none and now they are good for my age (66) and only need a light pencil for them to look good.
I tried castor oil and I just knew that would help but nothing happened for me I'm glad you got good results from it
I was thinking of trying aloe vera, as mine too are thin (it really worked on my post covid hair loss). If it doesn't work, maybe I'll try the castor oil. What really bugs me is that after menopause I started finding hairs growing under my eyebrows, where skin is delicate, as well as above the out edge of my brows. They are fine and a pain to pull out. Why can't they grow where I need them? 😅 Anyone else have this problem?
Mine are both balding all along now. My doc took more notice of that than almost anything else when it came to diagnosis/ T4 supplementation. The only time mine ever got better again was when I tried some methylated folate alongside my methylcobalamin.
My endocrinologist prescribed monthly B12 injections and since then my eyebrows have sprouted in all directions!
I have hardly any eyebrows now but can draw them in if necessary. I'm under-medicated for Ord's and awaiting a referral to Endocrinology that I just found out today was never made. I have practically no body hair any more (I'm 65) and my scalp hair is thin and dry. Buy hey, as long as the TSH is low, I keep getting the levo dose reduced.
