Levo versus Tirosint? (all those fillers!) 🤯🫣

I just stumbled on a recent article by Dr Westin Child’s discussing the astounding array of inactive ingredients (fillers) in Levo versus Tirosint. I’m curious to hear feedback on any of the group out there who’ve switched, and what you’ve noticed as a result. Cheers

Here in U.K.

No levothyroxine has colour dye

Only one brand (Teva) has mannitol…..yes mannitol upsets many people

Some brands have lactose in (Mercury Pharma, Eltroxin, Accord, Almus, Northstar, Wockhardt)

Many autoimmune thyroid patients develop lactose intolerance

Virtually impossible to get Tirosint in U.K., even on private prescription

I’m in the US and my system is very sensitive to filler ingredients in medications. I do very well on Tirosint capsules. I also find Tirosint to be more effective than other Levo brands when it comes to the same dose. I’ve read it’s because the Levo in Tirosint is better absorbed.

That list appears to not be a real product but simply a list of excipients found in some levothyroxine products. Thus it rather over-eggs the argument.

Some people have found Tirosint (or Tirosint SOL - a liquid version) good. Small number of excipients is good. But some have not got on well with it.

Seems feasible to me that the improved absorption might be the issue for some. Many find they need a lower dose of Tirosint. But the amount of glycerol (in Tirosint) might also cause problems in some.

I had a problem with levothyroxine tablet filler of maize starch, I lived in Us for a number of years where they didn’t put maize starch in the Levothyroxine tablets but when I returned to England they did, so I swelled up in all areas and they gave me sureties so I looked for common denominator I found the one was Maize Starch, I explained what I had done to my Endocologist and she put me on liquid levothyroxine, and the swelling went down.
