Morning, yes I have this too, from other posts it may be dairy products
Have you ever wondered if you're taking enough levo? There's a few things you can change that might help but first people need to know what your last blood results are. Get a print out from youbr GP surgery and come post them here.
Welcome to the forum
Do you have recent thyroid and vitamin results you can add
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
Which brand of levothyroxine do you normally take
Many, many people on levothyroxine develop lactose or dairy intolerance
Persistent cough is common symptom of dairy intolerance
You will see high numbers of members find dairy free diet necessary/beneficial
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum
About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.
Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.
Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)
20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis
In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

It could be silent reflux. I developed throat problems within a few months of starting levo and have had it ever since. It's very common with hypothyroid and it's called silent reflux because people often don't know they have it. Lots of people can get a chronic cough with silent reflux and persistent need to clear throat. Dust mite allergies in bedding/mattress etc are also worth considering especially if you notice it worse in mornings.
thank you
Try NAC, as well as helping your cough/airways it will lower your antibodies if you have Hashimotos and do lots of other good things to your body. My persistent cough went, by the way, when I started doing mono T3.
hi Frankie I’ve been on Levothyroxine at varying strengths since 1997 & I’ve never experienced coughing at all. So sorry you are having problems but I would suggest you speak with your Doc or Healthcare provider because I’ve not heard of coughing associated with Levothyroxine. I also have COPD & yes from time to time I do have a slight irritating cough but it is only occasionally & I only associate it with COPD. so sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
