Sudden stomach issues. Wondering if they are related to hypothyroidism?

Hi everyone. I posted my first post this morning re how to take control of my thyroid problems and got some brilliant advice so thank you for that.

Usually I muddle along with feeling pretty rubbish (dizzy, fatigue, irregular periods etc) but for a few months now I’ve a different problem and just wondering if anyone has experienced similar symptoms too?

I have been getting strange pains in my abdomen for a few months now. When I say strange, I’ve never felt anything like them before. They are constant little prickly pains, one at a time, in different areas of my stomach, upper, lower, left right, you name it. They feel like they are near the surface. They aren’t debilitating but just they’re 24/7 and I’m just at a loss what they could be. My stomach is also gurgling more than usual. I’ve looked at symptoms of IBS but I don’t have anything really going on that relates to that. Dr did bloods and stool samples and they came back ok. I’ve cut yeast and cows milk from my diet since doing a private food sensitivity test but just don’t feel it’s related to what I'm eating.

Has anyone experienced this type of pain before due to thyroid function or lack of it!

Accord branded Levothyroxine gave me the gurgling and a tingly mouth/throat, after being lactose free for a while. I’m better on Teva, had to change pharmacy to get a supply but they’ve sorted it. I’ve never been tested but I’d say I am lactose intolerant based on that. Could it be your meds contain lactose? What brand are you on? 🦋💚🦋

Yes it’s accord I'm on! I think I’ve been on that brand for a long time now with intermittent changes to a different brand over the years which I can’t remember name of.

I would recommend asking GP for a coeliac test. Even if this is negative it’s still worth trialling gluten free for 6-8 weeks to see if it benefits you. I’m definitely gluten intolerant, but not coeliac & all my previous stomach issues resolved when I followed forum advice to try eliminating it.

Hi Ktez, what dosage are you currently on? My GP reduced mine to 100mg daily and for the last 6-8 weeks I had many symptoms of hypothyroidism including some stomach issues(excess wind/gurgling/belching after eating/drinking).Two weeks ago I decided to increase to 125mg daily and slowly but surely the symptoms are dispersing. I have gotten lots of advice on here from some very knowledgeable people.Hope u feel better soon.

Thank you SS! I’m on 125mg but that has just recently been increased from 100mg about a week ago. Yes the advice on here is amazing. Proper eye opener for me. Hope your stomach remains settled :)

It may take a few weeks for the extra 25mg to do its thing but fingers crossed it does the trick for you.

I have recently started experiencing stomach issues… aches especially after eating, but also pretty persistent… never struggled with anything belly-related in the past. Will follow your post with keen interest!

Yes, I have some major gurgling sounds, belching, farting, pains in those areas after eating certain foods. Most gluten foods, dairy products and sugar products trigger mine. I've been playing around with foods to find out what is causing it. Once I'm gluten, dairy and sugar free for a few days, those symptoms stop. I can usually eat "some" gluten or dairy foods and be fine for several days, but if I eat too much of it, I develop those symptoms. Cut out ALL gluten and dairy products for a few days to see if this all stops.

Hi

Not sure if this is useful but it was sharp prickly pains in my stomach and chest that took me to see my Gp. I had been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in 1999 since which time I had remained on Levothyroxine which was adjusted depending on my TSH only unfortunately.

I was diagnosed with Pernicious Anaemia when I tested positive for anti intrinsic factor. With regular B12 Hydroxocobalamin injections the prickly pains all but disappeared. I self inject every other day. Whilst also currently sorting out the most effective treatment for my Hashimoto's. Keeping vitamins and minerals at their optimum. Also managing effects of low stomach acid.

Some autoimmune conditions like to pair up.

I also went gluten free which definitely helped with all the gurgling sounds, wind and reduced bloating. Although bloating remains an issue. Recently stopped dairy again to see it that helps.

My advice would be tot ake it a step at a time to see what works for you.
