Does thyroid bulging eyes go away

Its been six month since i was diagdiagnosed with thyroid my eyes have been bulging its almost a year now ,want to find out if this go away with thyroid meds or i have to see eye doctor because it seems like i m loosing my sight

Most people who develop Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) have an overactive thyroid and Grave’s Disease, whereas some have it with an under active thyroid/ Hashimotos (like myself) and a few have it who are euthyroid (no thyroid condition).

Can you tell us more about your thyroid condition and share any blood tests with us, eg

TSH

FT3

FT4

Plus any antibody tests.

What thyroid medication are you taking?

Are you taking any supplements? I would recommend 200ug selenium, as studies have shown this can be beneficial with active TED.

Are you in the UK? You really do need to see a TED specialist ophthalmologist.

Can you add some information on your diagnosis and recent thyroid results

Are you diagnosed as Hyperthyroid - Graves’ disease

Or

Hypothyroid - usually autoimmune also called Hashimoto’s

What medication are you currently taking

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Has GP/endo recommended taking selenium supplement

Have you seen optician for eyes

Are you using preservative free eye drops

GP or endocrinologist can prescribe these

Do you have Hyper Graves’ disease? As Thyroid Eye disease (TED) is closely associated with it - but can occur without Graves being diagnosed? 

Different specialists will need to deal with the thyroid issue (endocrinology) and TED (ophthalmology specialist).  

The conditions do not always correlate either so one can be difficult and the other calm at different times.

You definitely need to see a specialist. Serious complications are very rare and bulging should improve but the earlier treatment and management can be given the better.

im on cabrimazole for 12 weeks these results are for 6 weeks after cabrimazole

I can't see any results on here relative to thyroid - is there another page ?

We need to see TSH, T3 and T4 readings and ranges plus to be on Carbimazole you should have an antibody reading somewhere with readings of either TPO. a TgAB, a TSI or TR ab or words suggesting blocking / stimulating thyroid receptor antibodies ?

yes the doctor say both lobes are swollen

The blood clotted so the thyroid funtion wasn’t done.   

It should have been repeated. 

 Initially testing 6 weekly is standard. 

What is your carbimazole dose? Usually it’s started at a higher dose and reduced down.You need a current test.

Doesn’t look like Graves antibodies were tested.

Swollen thyroid can also occur with thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s) but it is transient and level naturally drop & in time can become under active

.Both are autoimmune and antibodies indicate best what you are dealing with.

You need thyroid antibody testing: 

TPOab (Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies)

 TGab (Thyroglobulin antibodies) 

TPO & TG appears with BOTH Hashimoto’s & Graves.  Hashis causes transient hyper prior to under active.  Graves continuous Hyper.  

If Graves (continuous hyper)  is Suspected must test either:

TRab (TSH receptor antibodies - which measures stimulating, neural & blocking antibodies)

And / or 

TSI (Thyroid-Stimulating Immunoglobulin), (stimulating only)
