Endocrinologist recommendations needed - female hormone specialist

I’m posting this for the second time as my last post only got one recommendation and that doctor is fully booked until December!

Hoping this post will be seen by others and perhaps a couple more decent recommendations follow.

Someone I know needs an Endo that can prescribe female hormones, namely progesterone.

She's seen other Endos and Gynae who have all been useless.

She has Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and they are looking for a private Endo who can prescribe female hormones, namely progesterone.

They have seen a couple of Endos previously who were pretty useless and recommended weight loss by eating less and moving more (yes that old chestnut) 🙄 thought I would tap into this group’s knowledge and see if anyone has recommendations for in and around London, but they are happy to travel further if necessary.

I know this is a thyroid forum but hopefully someone can help.As we are all most likely aware we cannot share details on the forum therefore please send me any details by direct message.

The good ones are hard to find. In your shoes Id book the the recommended despite the long wait. You canalways see someone before if they are available.....

Hi hope you are well :)

I do recall when I was asking about Endo’s who might have an up to date insight into female sex hormones there were no recommendations ( what an absolute disgrace….)

Dr Louise Newton has a clinic ( she’s a public figure and i’ve not personally used her so hopefully no issue posting her name). she has a waiting list but it might be worth getting on that? also I recall there were a few practitioners on the list from thyroid UK who mentioned sex hormones

good luck

Just a side thought- my experience with progesterone (personally and talking with friends/colleagues) is it can cause severe clinical depression and anxiety. Along with feeling bloated and sluggish.

Why the feeling this single hormone is the silver bullet?

Has she done blood tests to check her thyroid status? Could be so much more to this (speaking as someone who got sicker and sicker on HRT for 3 years before a new GP had a brainwave and sent me for a full blood test showing auto immune antibodies). Coming off all hormone treatment was the single most helpful thing and slowly slowly increasing my thyroid meds and following and AI diet (including private testing of vitamin levels and supplements for B12, vitamin D, eating Liver (I know 🙈) digestive enzymes, and more are what is returning my body weight in the direction of what feels normal to me. Initial thyroid meds on low doses made me even fatter at first. It’s a long slow journey. I wish your friend well, what a love friend you are to be searching for answers 🦋💚🦋

thanks for your response, she’s already under the care of my brilliant Endo who has checked her out fully so there’s no thyroid issues.

She needs to go to a female hormone specialist which my Endo is not and it’s though Progesterone is the next thing to try as it’s one of the treatments for PCOS.

I try and eat liver regularly, it’s an acquired taste but I believe the adage that you should eat your food as medicine now otherwise you will later eat medicines as food! Try this recipe:

Which digestive enzymes do you recommend?

yeah it’s quite mild, the egg balances out the flavour of liver. Had it for the first time in Fischers restaurant in Marylebone, London then just been making it at home since!

betaine with pepsin has worked wonders for me, I take the Solgar one and take between 1 and 3 tablets depending on the protein type and quantity in the meal, amazing how what presented as indigestion symptoms for years and years actually needed more stomach acid and not less. 🦋💚🦋

wow - and low stomach acid is common with hypothyroidism. I need to try this next myself
