DIO1 Testing

Hi, I've had my DIO2 test done but I would now like the DIO1 test as well. Do you know where I can get this? Is it available as a stand alone test? Thank you.

I haven't heard of a specific stand alone test for DIO1. I had an Ancestry DNA test done and a bi product was a list of my genetic make up including DIO1 (no explanation - so you need to then find a service that translates it). Someone said that Ancestry DNA don't include this data anymore, so you'd need to check to be sure

Did you find the Ancestory DNA test helpful? Did it give you useful information as well as the DIO1 and DIO2 information? How much did it cost (if you don't mind me asking)?

Well yes, because at the time at least, they were providing all the 'raw' data that reflects my DNA. I don't know if that is still available on their current offer. It cost me £49 I think on a special offer, but Jaydee says it's currently £60, but not sure what that includes....

My DIO1 & 2 results showed up on an Ancestry DNA test but that was from a few years ago. Only recently did I download my data and then upload it to a site mentioned on here for functional analysis. Just seen they have a 25% off sale atm so £60 for test and 3 months membership.

Do check before you use a service as there are several offering slightly different things. You would need to make sure which ever service you use that they do report on any gene you are interested in. Good luck and have fun. Really pleased I had mine done and not just for the ancestry aspect.

Hi, I may consider that will it carry as much weight for endo as say blue Horizon test?

I did hear from one person that one London Endo would only accept the Regenerus test, not a result from genetic dna. I can't see why the Blue Horizons one wouldnt be accepted though.

Not as a stand alone test, but Blue Horizon has a thyroid genetics test which includes DI01 and DIO2. With discounts, I paid £104. Test showed a problem for me for DIO1, but DIO2 okay.

Hi, i had Dio2 fine as well do you know if Dio1 causes any issues such as conversion from T4 to T3?

Yes, it does. Per "Blue Horizon,""D1 is largely expressed in the liver and kidneys. It is responsible for the clearance of rT3 from circulation, and for facilitating the conversion of T4 to T3 in plasma and surrounding tissue. " Blue Horizon test looks at 2 variants of D101, both linked to poor conversion of T4 to T3 and reduced clearance of rT3.

Hope that helps.

For D101: rs11206244, I am CT. Passed down from 1 parent. My FT4 at last blood test well below range at the moment, so a long way to go to see how conversion looks from blood results, as FT3 almost at top of the range.

Sent off an advanced thyroid function test to Medichecks yesterday, which they received today. Awaiting results from this.

What appears to be kidney function test results obtained through patient access from 2 and a half years ago may be proof of poor conversion in kidneys? All the results have an exclamation mark beside them! Nothing in the comments column, but probably "doctored" as done with significantly high cortisol and prolactin results done a few months ago. Comment blank, when a 2nd receptionist read them to me verbally as "significantly high". Took 7 weeks for the paper copy to be released to me, and had to sign a receipt and state whether for own use or a SOLICITOR!

Kidney function results all appear to be within their ranges, so don't know why they all have an exclamation mark. If abnormal, may be because of above poor conversion of T4 to T3 at kidneys.

I know exactly how unorthodox the doctors can be and i suspect i have the faulty Dio1 gene as i had kidney failure twice, kidney acute warning after that and my nan had kidney problems as well.

I dont think my liver is in great shape either.

Its frustrating when all doctors do is routine tests n keep repeating them when you know full well something else is going on.

I do hope you find a way to resolve the problems.

I think i am going to do the Blue Horizon test as cant find anywhere cheaper to get just the Dio1 done.

If you want to go further than a single test, you might consider Whole Genome Sequencing.

By the time you have covered a tiny number of specific tests, you could get the whole thing! I think the current least expensive is around $400 (which might be £400 or more at present).

I don't want to point you at any one supplier. Both to avoid effectively advertising and because I have no idea the benefits and reliability of one over another.
