B12 levels

Dear all,

I'm a bit confused about optimal B12 levels. I see that on Izabella Wentz's website, she says that optimal levels are 700-900 pg/mL (see thyroidpharmacist.com/artic.... I'm having a little trouble finding a reliable calculator to convert this to pmol/L, which is the unit of measurement used by Medichecks. I get some pretty weird numbers when I try online calculators such as this one: unitslab.com/node/141. I know from browsing this forum that a level of 100 pmol/L or above is recommended. My latest Medichecks results say >150, which is above the top of their range. I approached them, and they're unable to tell me what my actual level is, because they say "unfortunately the analysers that the lab uses does not go above this range for Vitamin B12". So now I'm wondering whether I'm doing harm by continuing to take Thorne Basic B every day, or whether it's fine to be somewhere above 150 pmol/L.....

Any advice would be a great help.

Many thanks

PS Perhaps I'm making a basic error concerning the difference between active and non-active B12?

There are two types of B12 test: active and serum. Looks like Izabella is talking about serum B12. The active range would not go that high. Your result looks like it's an active B12. You can't compare the two.

B12 is water soluble, so any excess is excreted. So, no, you're not doing yourself any harm continuing with the B complex. :)

I see, I suspected it might have something to do with the word "active"! Thank you very much for that clarification and reassurance.
