FT4: 12.1 pmol/l (Range 11.5 - 22.7)

Ft4 only 5.36% through range

FT4 is extremely low in range

Was test done early morning, ideally before 9am

TSH is not reflecting your low thyroid levels

You need BOTH TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested

Will need to test privately

NHS doesn’t test TG antibodies unless TPO are high

Also need vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels tested

Request GP/endo test vitamins

Or do blood test privately

Hi SlowDragon, sorry for taking so long to reply x I had the test in Superdrug on Thursday afternoon x I didn’t post till this morning as I’ve not been feeling great x I wasn’t sure about getting any kind of answers with the test. The doc has done the basic bloods and included thyroid. I’m always ok or borderline for everything

What are your most recent vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 results

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

You need thyroglobulin antibodies tested.

Will have to test privately. Poor value that they aren’t included in test you did

See GP and request starting on levothyroxine based on low Ft4

Alternatively you may need to see endocrinologist

I’ve no idea about any results, I’ll need to try to get the info from the gp surgery. I feel awful a lot of the time, the fibro fog doesn’t help either

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.

The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results

UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.

Link re access

In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.

Important to see exactly what has been tested and equally important what hasn’t been tested yet

Looking at previous post

Your on metaformin….so that explains why TSH is not responding to extremely low Ft4

Metaformin lowers TSH

You need 24 hour urine collection test for high cortisol

Possible Cushing disease

Have you had this done

The endo consultant was convinced in his head I had Cushing but couldn’t see outward signs however the dermatology consultant said yes I have vitiligo but he had a light in me finding those dark streaks here and there. I’ve also got a dark patch looks like a bruise in the centre of my chin. ( I really need to print off your replies so I can have the info you give in front of me. I use my iPhone and it’s difficult to keep up

Likely to see symptoms improve once settled on a decent dose levothyroxine

Standard starter dose of levothyroxine is 50mcg

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

Typically dose levothyroxine is increased slowly upwards over 6-12 months until on approx 1.6mcg levothyroxine per kilo of your weight per day

If GP won’t start you on levothyroxine

Email Thyroid U.K. for list of recommended thyroid specialist endocrinologist and doctors

High cholesterol is linked to being hypothyroid

Dose statin can be reduced then stopped once on levothyroxine and no longer hypothyroid

nhs.uk/conditions/statins/c...

If you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), treatment may be delayed until this problem is treated. This is because having an underactive thyroid can lead to an increased cholesterol level, and treating hypothyroidism may cause your cholesterol level to decrease, without the need for statins. Statins are also more likely to cause muscle damage in people with an underactive thyroid.

Hi, I’ve asked the doc for copies of the endo tests and the gps blood tests done in the last year too. I’m on 80mg per day or atorvastatin, if I need levothyroxine would it be ok? Also I’m prescribed vit D3 1000u 1 a day. I actually take the ones I bought 4,000iu. All other tests as I said are usually ok. I’ll get another advanced thyroid test done as soon as I have the cash. I think the cardiologist is instructing the GP to refer me back to endo, the heart trace was remarkably good according to cardio… he seemed surprised however they don’t tell me anything so I’ve no idea what was going on for him to get me back within 3 months lol I take it the atorvastatin being doubled worked then. No idea what they’ll do about the NAFL, I can feel it but they’re not fussed. I’ll ask endo about it whenever I see them x for now I’ll wait till I get the results you need to see and post when I have them x thanks for your help, I am clueless and you’re very patient x

High cholesterol is linked to low thyroid levels

Statins not recommended for hypothyroid patients

Cholesterol levels will naturally reduce as levothyroxine dose is increased

I know my gp did the basic thyroid but just said they were ok. When I get the new advanced thyroid checks we will know for sure. I will however talk to endo if that appointment come sooner. I’ve printed out the answers that you have given and I’ll write bullet points to help me. This iPhone makes everything hard to follow x

My laptop is useless and if I boot it up after a year there will be a million updates… I need a nice Mac book but that’s probably not going to happen lol

High cortisol should also reduce as levothyroxine dose is increased
