Liothyronine trial

Hi,

Firstly thanks for all the previous support!

I’ve now been prescribed liothyronine, 10mcg per day, 2x5mcg.

I’m just wondering should I be taking the first one alongside Levothyroxine or wait an hour after.

Does a fine have any positive experiences of combination medication?

Thank you.

You can take them at the same time

I'm on Levo and T3 and much better than on Levo alone.

I expect that your Levo has been reduced as FT4 was over range at last test. Reduce Levo first, wait a week or two then start adding T3.

Best to start at 1 x 5mcg daily, give it 2 weeks to make sure everything is OK, then add the second 5mcg.

Important to have GOOD vitamin levels too

Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 retested since last post

Hi, yes. Following the advice on previous posts I contacted thyroiduk and got a list of endocrinologists and managed to get referred to one in the neighbouring town. He done lots of blood tests and an adrenal function test.

He’s also prescribed iron tablets so I’m presuming that was still low (haven’t seen hospital blood results yet).

I’m taking vitamin D daily as I had Melanoma in 2020 (aged 35) so wear factor 50 daily and avoid peak sun times.

I’m very nervous starting the t3 but can only hope it works.

Thanks for all your help.

Recommend getting hold of these results…..they are legally yours

Vitamin D

Folate

B12

Ferritin

Iron too if ferritin under 40

Are you currently taking any magnesium supplements or vitamin K2 with your vitamin D

Hi, no I don’t take Magnesium or K2, is that recommended?

I don’t take Magnesium or K2, is that recommended?

Absolutely, yes, they are important cofactors needed when taking D3. You will have to buy these yourself.

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and Vit K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc. 90-100mcg K2-MK7 is enough for up to 10,000iu D3.

For Vit K2-MK7 my suggestions are Vitabay, Vegavero or Vitamaze brands which all contain the correct form of K2-MK7 - the "All Trans" form rather than the "Cis" form. The All Trans form is the bioactive form, a bit like methylfolate is the bioactive form of folic acid.

Vitabay and Vegavero are either tablets or capsules.

Vitabay does do an oil based liquid.

Vitamaze is an oil based liquid.

With the oil based liquids the are xx amount of K2-MK7 per drop so you just take the appropriate amount of drops.

They are all imported German brands, you can find them on Amazon although they do go out of stock from time to time. I get what I can when I need to restock. If the tablet or capsule form is only in 200mcg dose at the time I take those on alternate days.

Magnesium helps the body convert D3 into it's usable form.

There are many types of magnesium so we have to check to see which one is most suitable for our own needs:

naturalnews.com/046401_magn...

explore.globalhealing.com/t...

and ignore the fact that this is a supplement company, the information is relevant:

swansonvitamins.com/blog/ar...

Magnesium should be taken 4 hours away from thyroid meds and as it tends to be calming it's best taken in the evening. Vit D should also be taken 4 hours away from thyroid meds. Vit K2-MK7 should be taken 2 hours away from thyroid meds. Don't take D3 and K2 at the same time unless both are oil based supplements, they both are fat soluble vitamins which require their own fat to be absorbed otherwise they will compete for the fat.

Thank you so much.

Iron supplements must be minimum 4 hours away from levothyroxine and T3 and from any other supplements or medications

Thank you. I will have to write a list and figure it out as they’ve also prescribed Metformin for PCOS and a hormonal contraceptive to reduce the symptoms of that. I’m very confused. I really appreciate your continual help.

Are you seeing a really good hormonal specialist for your PCOS and are they talking to your endo? All hormones are related so working with sex hormones and thyroid hormones at the same time needs to be done really carefully so the balance is not upset even further.

CMBB27 profile image

Hi, no I haven’t seen a hormonal specialist. The PCOS was detected on a scan for a different reason and was just passed back to GP

Nothing on your profile….can’t see any mention of gluten free diet in previous posts

So if you have PCOS you presumably have Hashimoto’s (autoimmune thyroid disease)

Have you had coeliac blood test done

Are you on strictly gluten free diet

PCOS often responds to low sugar diet too

CMBB27 profile image
CMBB27 in reply to SlowDragon

Hi yes I have followed a gluten free diet for approximately 3 years now. They’ve never officially said hashimotos to me but I have thyroid antibodies.

Thanks

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to CMBB27

High thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

I started on T3 5mcg twice a day too.I lowered my Levo by 25mcg as told to, 2 weeks before adding T3.

Started with 5mcg T3 at same time as levo. Was all good. Did that for about 10days then added the 2nd dose just before bed.

I felt bloomin marvellous for about 6 weeks. Then it calmed down to feeling good.

I find T3 helps me sleep better. You might have to see what suits you.

About 3 years later I was struggling again and we put my Levo back up to original dose. Then 6 months later my T3 was upped a bit more.

Hopefully you’ll find it amazing and feel great.

Because of taking magnesium around 9pm I now take my night T3 when I wake to spend a Penny (2-4am) and that works well for me. 🙂🧁
