I last had a blood test on the 23rd May after an increase to 75. However shortly after I realised that I had actually only been taking 25. I had a new prescription for the increase to 75 and assumed they were 75 tablets but hadn’t checked. I couldn’t believe I had been so foolish. Since then I have been slowly increasing my dose to get back to 75 and am now due my 6weeks blood test on Monday. In the last three weeks I have needed to wee so frequently that after I wee washing my hands makes me want to wee again. I’m wondering if this is to do with the levothyroxin or if it could be something else. If anyone has any experience of this and could tell me if it’s likely to settle down as it’s a bit embarrassing at work. It doesn’t seem to affect me during the night although I am having trouble sleeping but that’s been the case for a few years now. Many thanks

Any advice on needing to urinate all the time please
Being hypothyroid can increase likelihood of UTI
Take urine sample with you to blood test
Request a urine dip test just to rule it out
A sudden increase in how often you're going to the toilet may be due to an infection. I would ask GP for a urine test to check for signs of infection / cystitis/overactive bladder/ rule out any kidney or diabetes issues. It’s definitely worth getting this checked out Mst27, as a short course of medication may quickly alleviate the issue.
Thank you for your replies I will speak to the doctor. I guess I have a tendency now to put everything down to hypothyroidism. I’ve never had a uti before !
I’ve had this after a dose increase and I’m sure it’s where I’m getting rid of some of the water retention I have. It’s settled down after a couple of weeks but then my water retention just comes right back again so who knows!
Agree with roseF. I had it too. When you are hypothyroid you retain fluid....forgotten the technicalities of why and what....but as you correct the hormone imbalance the body is able to get rid of this excessive fluid, causing you to wee more. It should settle. Being checked for a UTI is a good idea just incase though, especially if you have any burning sensations or you have the urge to wee but your bladder is empty.
