Thyroglobulin antibodies

Hi everyone

What are thyroglobulin antibodies and what range should they be in?

I know that my thyroglobulin has to be under 0.1 due to cancer and that thyroglobulin antibodies can affect the thyroglobulin result.

Hi welsh_girly83

I’ll apologise upfront that these aren’t the easiest documents to read but hopefully it’s a start.

Have a look at southtees.nhs.uk/services/p...

and

ekhuft.nhs.uk/EasysiteWeb/g...

There might also be something easier to digest on our parent site Thyroid UK—I’ll go and have a look for you. :)

Hi again

I couldn’t immediately find something on our parent site but I did find this: butterfly.org.uk/about-thyr...

which looks like a much easier read!

Hopefully others who’ve been in your shoes may come along to chip in with answers too. If they don’t, please don’t be put off—post again. :) Sometimes people with experiences similar to yours don’t see posts on the day they’re posted and then they slip too far down for them to spot them.

In addition to the sites already linked, LabTestsOnline has this which describes both and the interaction:

Antithyroglobulin antibody is a test to measure antibodies to a protein called thyroglobulin. This protein is found in thyroid cells. Antithyroglobulin antibodies can be a sign of thyroid gland damage caused by the immune system. They may be measured if thyroiditis is suspected. The normal value for thyroglobulin is 3 to 40 nanograms per milliliter (interval may vary) in a healthy patient. Any value above is an indicator of thyroid disease.

Hope that helps. :)
