High thyroid antibodies

Hi everyone

After being back and forth to the doctors with no answers for my symptoms I had a medichecks thyroid test and I've attached my results. The medicheck doctor say the high antibodies suggest that I may be at risk of thyroid disease in the future. I'm a little confused by this. I was convinced my symptoms pointed to a thyroid problem and I seem to have eliminated everything else via blood test etc. If I'm 'at risk' of it in the future, should I just have an annual test?

I'm new to all this but from reading other threads you all seem to have so much knowledge about thyroid disease so I would be grateful for any advice you may have

Yes, your high thyroid antibodies and very low vitamin levels strongly suggest you are already on the road to being hypothyroid

High thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease, also called Hashimoto’s

Extremely low vitamin D, very low ferritin, borderline folate

Low vitamins tend to lower TSH making it more difficult to get diagnosed as TSH is all most medics look at (including Medichecks doctor)

Take these results to your GP

Low ferritin

They should do full iron panel test for anaemia

Vitamin D is deficient

Guidelines are for GP to prescribe loading dose vitamin D and retest at end of prescription. You will need to take vitamin D supplements as maintenance dose everyday after this

You also need coeliac blood test done

Loading dose is 300,000iu in total over 6-8 weeks

That’s 5000iu per day for 8 weeks or 7000iu per day for 6 weeks

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol. Some CCG areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.
