When is it best to have a blood test for thyroid? Do you recommend eating before or does this not matter?

Blood test thyroid
ALWAYS test thyroid levels early morning, ideally before 9am and (if on levothyroxine now) last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

What has happened about her really terrible ferritin level of 5
Has she had full iron panel test for anaemia and been prescribed iron supplements
B12 was also far too low. No folate result
Presumably you have been supplementing her vitamin D
I do not have her actual levels for iron but they have been told they are within range. Herare her thyroid levels. She has previously had thyroid antibody levels of 125 and 145. We won’t get to see the paediatric consultant for months now
Normal is not a result it’s an opinion…..often incorrect one
Good ferritin level is at least over half way through range
You are legally entitled to copies of test results and ranges
What is range on Ft4…..if it’s 12-22 …..Ft4 of 13 is low
Suggest you get full thyroid and vitamin testing done yourself via Blue horizon (they will test children)
Book private blood draw at near to you clinic
Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning (and not in heatwave or risk blood getting too hot in mail to lab)
That’s factually incorrect that vitamin D is not clinically relevant with autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimoto’s)
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/286...
Vitamin D deficiency is frequent in Hashimoto's thyroiditis and treatment of patients with this condition with Vitamin D may slow down the course of development of hypothyroidism and also decrease cardiovascular risks in these patients. Vitamin D measurement and replacement may be critical in these patients.
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/273...
Vitamin D insufficiency was associated with AITD and HT, especially overt hypothyroidism. Low serum vitamin D levels were independently associated with high serum TSH levels.
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/300...
The thyroid hormone status would play a role in the maintenance of vitamin D sufficiency, and its immunomodulatory role would influence the presence of autoimmune thyroid disease. The positive correlation between free T4 and vitamin D concentrations suggests that adequate levothyroxine replacement in HT would be an essential factor in maintaining vitamin D at sufficient levels.
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Our results indicated that patients with hypothyroidism suffered from hypovitaminosis D with hypocalcaemia that is significantly associated with the degree and severity of the hypothyroidism. That encourages the advisability of vit D supplementation and recommends the screening for Vitamin D deficiency and serum calcium levels for all hypothyroid patients.
Look at increasing iron rich foods in her diet
If necessary “hide” liver in shepherds pie, spaghetti bolognaise, curry, etc
Red meat most days….plus orange juice (vitamin C) to improve iron absorption
Has GP done full iron panel test yet …..if not get tested
Suggest you also get iron test via Blue horizon if GP remains obtuse
