Hello all it's been awhile

I went to the endocrinologist and he said that since I have Hashimoto's I have a good chance of not getting thyroid cancer

Has anyone heard of that

Waiting to go back as I lost my insurance for a bit and feel awful

Hi Crystalynn

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) often co-exists with thyroid cancer / carcinoma.

Typing these keywords in Pubmed

"((thyroid cancer)[ti] OR (carcinoma)[ti]) AND hashimoto's[ti] "

pulls out a long list of publications.

Autoimmunity and associated inflammation have been implicated as strong risk factors for the development of thyroid carcinoma [ref 1].

Conversely, there have been many "associative" studies showing "Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) seems to have favourable prognostic impact on papillary thyroid cancer (PTC)". An example is ref 2, see attached figure from the paper.

If you just got diagnosed, and are still at the early stage of HT, it'd be best is to calm down the autoimmunity via diet and lifestyle routes, as much as you can.

take care.

Thank you for that info I was advised by my endo that since I have Hashimoto's I am more likely not to get thyroid cancer I was advised my red blood cells would indicate something sinister going on although the cbc cannot diagnose cancer it would give the dr and idea of what's going on I get so confused with all this
