B12 injections and T3

Hello!

I wondered if anybody knows of any cases, or any research, where people who have started having B12 injections then start to convert T3 better snd so need less T3 meds afterwards?

Thanks in advance.

Generally we need all four vitamins at OPTIMAL levels for good conversion

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels last tested

Please add most recent results and ranges

Always test thyroid levels early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Thanks. It's actually a query about whether this is a known thing?

Are you on replacement thyroid hormones

Or do you mean your own thyroid output

Either way optimal vitamin levels often improves thyroid levels

B12 needs good folate levels too

We see many members conversion of Levothyroxine (Ft4) to active hormone (Ft3) improve getting all B vitamins optimal

Are you currently taking a daily vitamin B complex?

Or folate

'We see many members conversion of Levothyroxine (Ft4) to active hormone (Ft3) improve getting all B vitamins optimal'

That is really helpful, thank you. Is there any research that you know of that supports this?

Not as far as I know

Most medics only test for vitamin deficiencies

They aren’t interested in OPTIMAL Vitamin levels

Down to patients to self supplement to maintain GOOD Vitamin levels

Do you have PA or “just” low B12

Are you vegetarian or vegan

Are you diagnosed as hypothyroid

Have you had FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis. Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally before 9am last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Before taking B12 injections the GP should confirm or not that you have Pernicious Anaemia.

If you have Pernicious Anaemia it is recommended that frequent B12 injections are given. Usually they are quarterly injections but I have them monthly.

I have P.A. and also have hypothyroidism so I have monthly (usual is 3 monthly) B12 injections).

I feel well and have no symptoms.

My mother had P.A. too but her GP told her she needed no more B12 injections as 'her bloods were fine' - no internet research then but my mother developed stomach cancer and died due to the removal of her B12 injections.

Thats great. Thanks a lot. So does that mean that if you have hypothyroidism and PA then it should be an interval of every month for B12 jabs? I hadn't read that anywhere before.

I'm so pleased that you are well.

I first enquired through my GP and it was he that told me I could have as many B12 injections I felt I needed.
