Carbimazole & herbal supplements??

Hi all, I’m hoping someone could give me more information on something as I’m losing the will trying to find out via my doctors and the local chemist. In a nutshell I’m on carbimazole 5mg daily and lately I’ve been getting symptoms similar to menopause (I’m 45) but with me having over active thyroid and b12 deficiency I’m guessing they all get entwined to a degree. I purchased some herbal tablets called “health and her” after reading up on all matters and with it having rave reviews, I figured I’m in the age bracket and getting these problems so I’ll give them a try. However.. I’m also aware that some herbal remedies can interact with prescription medications, no one is ever available to get me a yes or no to start trying them, is anyone here able to point me to any info or if anyone is using these and also on carbimazole???

There’s several version of health & her.

The peri menopausal one has these ingredients

Vitamin D3 20µg 400%

Vitamin C 172mg 215%

Ginkgo Biloba Extract eq.to 1,800mg **

Red Clover Extract eq. to 800mg **

Ashwagandha Root Extract eq. to 250mg **

Rhodiola Root Extract eq. to 150mg **

Avena Sativa Extract eq. to 100mg *

Do you take a separate D3 or vitamin C or other multi supplements?

I think ashwagandha can lower cortisol increase thyroid function. That might not be helpful.

I don’t think is will interfere with carbimazole or stop it working.

Thank you for the reply, it’s the peri meno ones I’ve got, I tend to take a general multi Vit, Vit C, Vit D spray and the odd magnesium tablet.

So you need to add up all the ingredient doses & make sure it’s your target dose. Not over dose.

Excess Vitamin C is usually excreted but you might be taking too much with additional vit C & multi supplement.

How much vit D spray are you taking as this has 20ug and other multi could mean your are taking more than intended.

Check multi doesn’t contain iodine as this could worsen hyper. Calcium & iron should only be taken if know to be deficienct and also often in multis.

Multis can also contain Biotin which needs to be left of at least a few days before a blood draw. (Can skew results as interferes with testing process, worth certain tests)

Thank you, I will check amount’s, I’ve always taken multi vits just out of habit and added the extra c & d for immunity boost, I recently had a lot of bloods taken and all was within ranges that’s why I started thinking maybe menopause was creeping in, Was hoping to just have the herbal tablets and the magnesium if it that’s the case.

Hello again ;

There is a section within Elaine Moore's Graves Disease Foundation website where she lists more natural alternative therapies, when treating Graves and it might just be useful to dip in there and maybe there are also links there to the menopause.
