Oh this is sweet...

Evidence based medicine has been corrupted by corporate interests, failed regulation, and commercialisation of academia, argue these authors

nice find , dolphin5 just reading some of the early responses .. ( there's 3 pages of them :) )

So far , several of them are agreeing loudly .. the emporer is indeed naked.

from one reply:

"...Most health professionals do not know basic statistics and, even they have great shortcomings in interpretation of results obtained in elementary mathematical procedures. Doctors in this area have a training that corresponds to academic background of initial school pupils, and often they are not even able to interpret results produced by a simple division, or raising a number to a power, or a logarithm. The most frequent answer given by students applying to medical programs around the world, to the classic question, why did you decide to study medicine is: because in the medical curriculum there are no subjects related to Mathematics...."

Thanks Dolphin5. Sadly not surprising.......given how doctors cant even interpret blood test results and the ranges in a sensible manner.....am not surprised they cant analyse medical research!! And of course big pharma is there to sell us meds & treatments, not to make us better or cured or they would be out of a job. No profits in being well.....lol.

I thought this response from a medic sums up the nonsence rather well:-

Dear Editor

Jureidini and McHenry have published an important message.[1] As they mention, the industry suppresses negative trial results, fails to report adverse events, and does not share raw data with the academic research community. By these methods, the drug companies and their well-paid scientific supporters have for instance succeeded with starting the cholesterol campaign. It is a fact that the cholesterol hypothesis is unable to satisfy any of the Bradford Hill criteria for causality.[2] The most obvious contradictions are that people with low cholesterol become just as atherosclerotic as people with high cholesterol [2]; that numerous studies have shown that elderly people with high LDL-cholesterol live just as long or longer than people with normal or low cholesterol [3,4]; and that no trial using cholesterol-lowering drugs have shown exposure-response.[2] Furthermore, the reason why some of the people with inherited, high cholesterol die prematurely from a heart attack is not their high cholesterol, but elevated coagulation factors which only a few of them have inherited as well. In fact, people with familiar hypercholesterolemia live on average just as long as other people.[5]

So glad you are quoting this information. We need to keep our eyes on what makes us better. This such an extra interference for thyroid patients.

No probs it caught my eye on several levels. One being Ive just had my mot blood test....& the receptionist said I need to see GP as cholesterol is high I need to take staying. Got the results. Overall 4.1. No way am I taking statins - GPs get paid if they prescribe them. All twisted & wrong. More money wasted on the nhs....lol. I think big pharma sees the NHS as a cash cow!

Yes something else we are having to contend with “big pharma sees the NHS as a cash flow”. The T3 fiasco is yet another obvious example.

I would never take them. I was warned by a private doctor to never let myself be pressured into taking them by any health professional, regardless of status.

They're particularly dangerous for hypo patients as that's where our steroid hormones are produced and we're already low in them.
