PLEASE…..

HAS ANYONE READ DR BLANCHARDS BOOK..

THE FUNCTIONAL APPROACH TO HYPOTHYROIDISM..

AND THEN FOLLOW THROUGH ON HIS TREATMENT PLANS??

It roughly means treating with 98/2 ratio of t4/t3

Using compounded t3 slow release capsules.

AND….

HAS any such person found /uses a doctor/endo who endorses this approach and prescribes accordingly.??

Gosh..this is a big ask…

Pleas do pm me if necessary ..that is..if mentioning doctors etc.

Many thanks…

Surely ..

There’s at least one person 😳

Yes I have read his book. Not sure about his protocol. Why?He added small doses of lio to patients on normal/adequate doses of T4 and improved their health. However he doesn't really speak about what he advocates for patients who are not well on doses of t4 or who cannot tolerate t4. That is many who are on here and are difficult to treat

He believes that we need combo and that anyone on t3 liothyronine only would become ill eventually once their body had depleted its t4 at tissue level. However we know this is not the case as there are members on here who are on t3 only and have been for many years . He also states that t3 needs t4 at tissue level if it is to be able to work. Again members on here demonstrate that this is not always the case.

He speakers of timed release small doses . I am not sure if this is the same as slow release. I wonder how gut function affects the workings of slow or timed release medication . It would need to be specially compounded and indeed he mentions tailoring the t3 tablets to the needs of the individual patient- some needing slightly more than others

What I do take from his work is that some folks only need a small amount of t3 added to levo. If you think a normal thyroid makes roughly 100mcg t4 and 10mcg t3 then some of us only seem to need that missing t3 that the thyroid would have made if it was still functioning.

THANKYOU for your reply🌝Yes I take your points….

I’m many ways the book is great as it’s short and to the point but does leave unanswered questions…

I’m one of those who can’t seem to tolerate anything..tries so many things…don’t know where to go next…

Remember that diogenes posted this the other day:

Some might do better on L-T4 only. Others do need L-T3.

And that the thyroid, if we have one, also converts some T4 to T3. It is the sum of what it makes plus what it converts that should deliver what we need (in health).

Must say, when I first found out about people taking T3 only (and not having a functioning thyroid to get any T4), I was amazed it was feasible. And I still find it hard to understand how it all works.

Yes.. ditto ditto I agree with all that Dr B doesn’t actually address all round the subject in this particular book functional hypothyroidism .. but he does admit it here is no one size for all

Which is better than many! :-)

Yes I have this book. I think it advocates more or less a one-size-fits-all recipe. That recipe is a high ratio of T4 to T3. We now know that this works for some people but not for others. It is still worth reading however for all the little tips it contains that are worth trying.

Absolutely ! It is one method which clearly must work for some and maybe for many but unless you reread his books you wouldn’t know the method ..I like his approach sand reasonings I must say and like the fact book is small
