Hi again everyone Ive just come back from a NHS walk in centre as the dizzy spells are driving me around the twist. The Dr gave me a medication in the title of this post. I read that can affect people with thyroid problems. However I will take it well away from Levothyroxine. Is anyone on here on this medication? plus does it help the issue.
prochorperazine/ Stemetil: Hi again everyone Ive... - Thyroid UK
prochorperazine/ Stemetil
I’ve had Stemetil in the past but found Stugeron travel tabs better.
Thanks for the reply. Hopefully they'll help me out. Are sturgeon available over the counter. Or prescription
I use this all the time, have done for years. Works well for me.
I used it for a while, many years ago, while taking levothyroxine. I did not notice any interactions.
Hello Jelley93, I had this prescribed in my 30’s for vertigo. I just took it when I felt that dizzy in the head feeling but no balance issues. It subsided for many years but more recently (I’m 75 now) I’ve had several days of this weird dizziness. It comes and goes. As is usually the case the surgery weren’t interested. I managed to get a repeat of the prescription; looking back I’m astonished they let me have it. I got more sympathy from the staff in Sainsbury’s cafe who were really kind, carried my tray and I waited there, until my husband arrived to drive me home, I left my car in the car park as I didn’t feel safe to drive. The Stemetil/Prochlorperazine definitely does help. I decided not to worry about the dizziness, though it is horrible, I think it can’t be a life threatening symptom 🤞🏼as I’ve experienced it over such a long period. I don’t take it as prescribed. The box says three times a day. I find that I can usually take one and my head is sorted within a couple of hours. i dohope it works for you too. Take care.🥰
Hi kazania Yes. I took 2 yesterday. One just an hour back, Ive get this symptom when I am either undermedicated. However last blood test showed it looks like I am over medicated so I guess it works both ways. Yes its a horrible symptom not room spinning but just feel like you are moving when you aren't and balance is all over the place. Thanks for your reply. Hope you feel better soon
What did the doctor diagnose as a reason for the vertigo?
Hi Batty1 hope you don’t mind me joining in here. I don’t recollect getting any diagnosis, GP may have looked in my ears and eyes but not much else. Really they just don’t want to know and it’s getting worse. I’d rather do anything than try getting an appointment. Thank goodness for all the helpful people on this forum, lifesavers.
I had a very acute attack of labyrinthitis which hospitalised me for 10 days and I was treated with a large dose of stemitel. Then my GP recommended that I continued the medication for more weeks than the hospital consultant had prescribed. It didn't really help my balance nausea or dizziness...I think I just recovered naturally though took a few months.
I had nosebleeds when taking it...and other symptoms which I thought were caused by thyroxine imbalance...palpitations tiredness...weak muscles. But blood tests didn't support how I was feeling...and my GP wasn't keen on me changing my dose of thyroxine.
I was sure that stemetil was affecting my thyroxine absorption...and once I stopped taking it everything settled down. But it took a few months.
I think it will help if you allow a big time space between the two medications. I never thought to do that. It's also good to get regular thyroid function checks when you have to take stemetil.
Jelley93,
I’ve just been reading about how gluten can cause cerebellar ataxia. This is caused by the gluten or milk proteins inflaming the brains cerebellum that effects our balance control centre. Are you gluten & dairy free?
Hi Radd, for the last week I have been eating gluten free foods and taking probiotics. I am hoping its not that as last time it went of its own accord. When my dosaged was raised
