Can untreated hashimotos or sub clinical hypothyroidism over a long period of time be the cause of a heart murmur which would cause dilat ed cardiomyopathy?

Thank you. It's for someone else. They are refusing to listen to me saying there may be a possible link and say they have no symptoms. Yet I can see many. The Dr said that the murmur caused the cardiomyopathy and I've asked what causes the murmur.

Many many autoimmune thyroid patients have mitral valve prolapse (murmur)

Hmmm... grabbed this from the first link:

Effects of thyroid hormone on the heart are elicited by a number of genomic and nongenomic effects. Increase in thyroid hormone levels plays a role in transition from the fetal heart to adult phenotype of heart. The heart relies mainly on triiodothyronine (T3) because there is no significant deiodinase activity inside myocytes, and T3 is directly transported into the myocyte. During adult life, T3 modulates inotropic and lusitropic properties of the myocardium, myocardial contractility, and vascular function.

So if you don't convert T4 to T3 well, like me ,it looks like my heart problems could be related to inadequate thyroid treatment! Is this medical neglect because I can't get T3 prescribed?

I still get ectopics and am on NHS prescription T3

I have MVP too (research suggests this is often autoimmune too) diagnosed 28 years ago. Been having “skipped beats” for decades

Ectopics seem reduced with addition of T3, magnesium supplements and gluten free diet

Higher carb meal (or chocolate) possibly seems to set mine off …..or stress

Only ever been able to record them since I got a watch that does ECG as they happen so randomly

Stress most definitely. I've even had a consultant in hospital confirm that stress increases the rate of skipped beats even as he measured my heart.

Mine started after a 2nd procedure to put stents in.

Can you give me an idea of what type of watch yours is?Am thinking of investing in a smart watch and am not sure which if any in the shallow end (of spending) can be relied on.

I have had Fitbit in past (excellent) and they now make Charge 5 that does ECG - £160

I currently have Apple 6 …..but it needs an iPhone as well so expensive if you don’t have an iPhone

Is an Apple 6 an Apple Watch of some kind? I do have an IPhone, clueless about watches though I am!

Charge 5! For £160 I expect it to provide me with a therapy dog I can take everywhere, give me personal training sessions and advocate on my behalf in any meeting I have with a GP.
