Scared of new GP lowering T4 when they find out about my T3!

Hi guys, I have hashimotos and currently take 100mg Levo from my GP and 20 Lio which I buy myself as I had zero improvement on T4 alone, had to finish work etc, etc. I am much much better with T3, I can stay awake much much longer, my hair grows, I am no longer always cold. My old Gp was so incompetant that I hadn't had a test for around 4 years, but as I used medichecks I didnt care.

Having moved house, my new GP wants to do a test. Can someone please remind me of the famous article about T3 and suppressed TSh please so I can take it to them.

Many Thanks

Take a copy of your latest Medichecks test results in with you

Assuming Ft4 and FT3 are within range

NHS only tests TSH - then has a fit if TSH is below range

The new GP might be happy to accept copy of your private test results to be kept on your file

Meanwhile print out a few research papers on improved quality of life on Levothyroxine plus T3

See many of diogenes posts for recent research papers

Are you referring to Dr Toft's article in Pulse magazine? If so then that refers to patients taking Levo only:

“The appropriate dose of levothyroxine is that which restores euthyroidism and serum TSH to the lower part of the reference range – 0.2-0.5mU/l.

In this case, free thyroxine is likely to be in the upper part of its reference range or even slightly elevated – 18-22pmol/l. Most patients will feel well in that circumstance.

But some need a higher dose of levothyroxine to suppress serum TSH and then the serum-free T4 concentration will be elevated at around 24-28pmol/l.

This ‘exogenous subclinical hyperthyroidism ’ is not dangerous as long as serum T3 is unequivocally normal.”

Go here to arm yourself and inform your doctor too, perhaps. Best wishes!!
