Is Getting Dismissed as a Patient an Embarrassment or Rite of Passage?

Is Getting Dismissed as a Patient an Embarrassment or Rite of Passage? I wasn't being rude. In the lobby waiting to be seen by my surgeon another patient was recording her "plastic surgery journey" as the Ear Nose Throat surgeons also do the cosmetic surgeries.

As a cancer patient, I'm not comfortable on someone else's "influencer social media" page with my TT/Jack the Ripper throat slit and the new tumor or whatever I now have under my jaw. I do not have my own social media, why would I want to appear with my thinning hair, bloat, TT scar on someone else's pages?

Again, I was not rude or out of line, but I asked the staff to ask the other patient to stop her filming the rest of us in the waiting lobby for her blog. I feel in a violation of the privacy act we have here stateside called HIPAA. I was asked to leave without being seen and now received an email I am dismissed "For my actions to the staff".

I'm conflicted. Maybe I should feel mortified, but I don't. Again I feel like I have a a right to privacy in my doctor's office. Especially when dealing with the big C. But I also kind of feel proud, that I stood up as PTC patient, we're not just billable cattle.

Thoughts?

WOW! No one should be filming patients in a doctor's office. I am in the US and the person filming should have been the one told yo leave. Even if you were ugly about it, the person doing the filming should have been told that what they were doing is unacceptable in a doctor's office.

I happened to stumble on a young girl in Canada who is filming her cancer treatments in a breast cancer hospital and apparently this is ok but again she didn’t film other patients but still seems odd that its allowed.

We are entitled to our own privacy and especially if we're also coping with a severe illness .

We cannot sucumb to bullying wherever it takes place. It is our body and we are the one who decides what is suitable or not..

How awful , I would of acted the same. It was an invasion of your privacy. I’m sure there is a law about it. Good for you standing your ground.

You were uncomfortable and had every right to vocalize it in a respectful manner. Shame on them for being so callously dismissive.

You simply asked in a polite calm manner for the person videotaping in a doctors office to stop and you were thrown out …This definitely doesn’t seem right and I would file a complaint.
