What is wrong with my thyroid gland? Are the numbers normal? What should I do? Pls suggest.

Welcome to forum

Have you been told you have a thyroid condition? Have you been prescribed any replacement hormone?

You need to be tested for the Free T4 & Free T3 this will show you the active unbound levels your system can use. Total T4 & T3 Is less useful.

Every results will have a lab reference range which varies between labs, please add yours and then it will be possible to interpret.

Are you in UK? can recommend testing companies which offer compete thyroid testing. Many use private companies as NHS do not always test FT3 and other important tests for thyroid evaluation. Such as thyroid TPO & TG antibodies and key nutrients folate, ferritin, B12 & vitamin D?

The TSH result suggests a problem. However to be sure you need to get further useful tests done. TSH, ft4, ft3, and antibody tests. Also worthwhile getting ferritin, b12, folate and vit d tested. With these test results we will be in a better position to offer advice.

Are you in the U.K.

Are you currently diagnosed as hypothyroid and on levothyroxine

If yes, how much and how long at this dose

Or trying to get diagnosed as hypothyroid

Please add ranges on these results (figures in brackets after each result)

Always test thyroid levels early morning, ideally before 9am

Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

TSH over 5 = in need of treatment

NHS requires 2 blood tests,at least 6 weeks apart with TSH over 5 before starting on levothyroxine

Come back with new post once you get further testing done

Welcome to our forum goodspirit and we do have some men on our forum. Women, however, exceed males.

All of our members are very helpful and this is the method I'd advise to get the best out of your dose. I must also state that I'm not medically qualified. I have hypothyroidism that took a long time to be diagnosed as GP told me that I had nothing wrong with me. He didn't appear to be aware of what a TSH of 100 indicated. (you can click on my name and it will take you to my page if you wish to read my journey).

When a blood test is due, always make the earliest appointment for your blood draw. It is a fasting test (you can drink water) and do NOT take thyroid hormones before test but afterwards. Always take them with one glass of water as we don't want any to stick in our throat.

Request Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate to be tested when you have your next blood test.

Post your results on your next query and always put the ranges (ranges are in brackets after the results).

Not what you're looking for?
