Advice on the efficacy of going gluten-free

Hi there

I have been gluten free for over a month and I don’t think it’s doing anything for me. Same aches and pains. Same tiredness and brain fog. Same skin issues.

How long do I give it to see improvements? Is there anyway I can check if it is doing me any good?

Next on my list is to try dairy free but I want to make sure I can rule out gluten.

Thanks

Eimear

You need to give it longer

Presumably you have Hashimoto’s

Where thyroid antibodies tested recently

You may see TPO antibodies reduce on strictly gluten free diet

Retest full thyroid and vitamin levels approx 2-3 months after starting gluten free diet

I haven’t got hashis. My antibodies are fine. I did wonder if I had auto immune as some of my recent symptoms seemed that way so I thought I would try it to see it helped but it hasn’t.

Personally I would give it until your next blood test to see if there is any improvement in hormone levels from better absorption. Improvements in symptoms can be very slow and imperceptible at first.

My endo has increased my Levothyroxine too so that may influence my hormone levels.

If you're not gluten-sensitive, then going gluten-free isn't going to help any. It certainly didn't do anything for me.

I’ve not got coeliac disease but we were wondering if I had some sensitivity. I am not sure I have.

Not everyone has. And it tends more to be people with Hashi's that are gluten-sensitive. :)

I found that if I was intolerant to a certain food, the symptoms was much improved after 3 days and gone after a week. I found intolerance to the following food Prunes, Blueberries, Caramel, Grapes, Pork, Coffee. But what has greatly helped me is avoiding wokhart and teva brand of Levo. I now have to take 100 and 50 on alternate days (as I'm on 75 daily) of Northstar Accord, and have never felt better.

I avoid Teva as it makes me really poorly.
