When I posted about my low ferritin without anaemia, I received some great advice. I’m going to the doctor tomorrow and can’t remember what was said about a mutation, beginning with M, I think, and how this would affect the ferritin levels.

I want to discuss investigation options, so need to be armed with some knowledge.

Are you still only on 75mcg levothyroxine?

Being under medicated for thyroid results in low ferritin levels

Always test early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

Thank you SlowDragon, I’m currently on 100 mcg levothyroxine, did a Monitor My Health test this morning as it’s a few months since my last one. Will update on here with the results.
