Teva making me ill
It could be the fillers in Teva, mannitol upsets some people, you might have to change brand. I am sure more knowledgeable members will come along and advise you. I had to go back to my original brand as I could not take Teva due to the mannitol.
sunsation1, Lots of people cannot tolerate Teva Levothyroxine. It contains mannitol, which many people have adverse reactions to.
I suggest getting in touch with your GP to explain the problem and ask for a new prescription, which you can then take to your pharmacy to supply you with a different brand.
Teva and gold shield did the same for me. I found Wockhart’s Levothyroxine gave me the least issues. Morning side was also passable.
Teva contains acacia powder, and I was very ill when I took Teva levothyroxine. I now have Accord levothyroxine and the no more problems. Watch out for acacia honey or honeys that are from mixed sources. My prescription states Acord levo only.
I had the same problems and changed as recommended by this forum to North Star Accord, my nausea and headaches stopped after 2 days, good luck 🤞
I had exactly the same, nausea and headaches. Stopped a s soon as I switched brand. Spoke to my GP and now they specifically write "not Teva" on my prescription as I had quite a bit of trouble finding other brands in my local pharmacies.
Yellow card it, speak(if you can) to your gp, I had problems with TEVA brand and if you insist gp will add "Do not dispense TEVA brand" to your prescription, mine did but I had to insist this was done.
Me too. I did a lot of research as it wasn't the only brand that affected me, but Teva was the worst. I think for me it was the Acacia that caused the same problems as you have, but it was probably more than one excipient. I am now on liquid thyroxine as there were several brands that did not suit me. Important to report it through the Yellow Card system.
Hi Tintin0202❤️
I'm lactose intolerant I did not fair well on 2 brands of T4 after a lot of awful blood results I found out my first lot of T4 contained lactose, in my records it clearly says LACTOSE INTOLERANT, I had a test at my local hospital where it was found my gp was fully aware of my status but failed me in prescribing it to me I was ill for months then I noticed it contained lactose, the gp changed it to T4 lactose free but again my bloods were awful... So was I endo said I was either not converting or was not absorbing the t4(I also have colitis) so I was put on T3.. Been on it since 2020 but started having bad symptoms, bad headache, sweating, bad stomach /bowle pain feeling sick just not well but on my bloodwork I had 2 over range calciums then endo did parathyroid hormones and they were over range to so wrote saying she thinks I may have primary hyperparathiyroidism, that's still ongoing, I came off the T3 for 5 days to see if the symptoms subsided they did but I am left with going to the loo constantly very thirsty, bad bone pain sweating but these I attribute to primary hyperparathiyroidism, my gp won't budge on giving me another T3 medication, I asked about liquid T3 but we're told teva we're the only T3 that's lactose free.. What is your liquid levoroxine is it lactose free?? ❤️
Please see my post in the main comments about getting Thybon henning T3 which is lactose and acacia free.
Hi Birkie, I'm sorry to hear about all your problems. At the moment I am taking Teva oral thyroxine and there is definitely no Lactose in it. The main ingredients are Glycerol, Citric acid monohydrate, sodium hydroxide and sodium methyl parahydroxybenzoate (which I don't like). Every month I am given a different brand and some are better than others, but it is so frustrating not to get the same brand every time and choose the one that suits me best. It is all about saving money! I am still not convinced that it makes me feel completely well, but it is better than the pills.
Hi sunsation1❤️
I take T3 teva lactose free been on it since 2020 I have awful symptoms, headache, bloated stomach and intestinal pain sweating, felling sick and a awful metallic taste in my mouth.. I'm going through investigation for primary hyperparathiyroidism at the minute as my calcium and pth keep going out of range I thought these symptoms may be due to the hyperparathiyroidism but I'm having second thoughts now, but I've been told this is the only T3 tablet that is lactose free and my gp is doing nothing but making me stay on it and giving me further blood tests due in 3 weeks 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
There is now a new product - Roma liothyronine hard capsules.
Gingernut44 posted the other day:

If acacia or mannitol is the issue with Teva Levothyroxine, their Liothyronine contains neither.

Hi helvella❤️
I'm on teva liothyronine lactose free been on since 2020..obviously my calcium and parathyroid hormones going over range are a different matter and as the endo said you probably have primary hyperparathiyroidism, still under investigation for this, but as I said I came off them for 5 days and apart from constant trips to the toilet and utter thirst bone /joint pain and fast heart/ slight dull headache, the stomach /bowle problems and metallic taste and slight tremor went I felt so much better not being on the T3.. But my gp won't entertain me.. 🤷♀️
Teva is the only lactose free T3 licensed in the UK. However you can get an unlicensed T3 if you have a clinical need such as allergies and intolerances.
Thybon henning doesn't have lactose or acacia.
If you can get your GP to give you a NHS green prescription, you can post it to Tollesbury Pharmacy. They will dispense and post the T3 back to you free.
Edited as I missed out the words 'lactose free'.
I thought morning side do t3 in uk via nhs.
Not so - Morningside, Teva, Mercury Pharma, and now Roma and Colonis as hard capsules..
More details in my medicines document.

Amended my original reply as I meant to say Teva is the only 'lactose free' T3 in the UK
Thanks - but Roma and Colonis are also lactose-free!
Ooh that's interesting. I thought I'd looked on thyroiduk at the ingredients and Teva was the only one I found. Maybe it's because I also need acacia free.
Nope, just looked at your list Helvella and roma and colonis are both acacia free. Are they new, I.e. within the last 12 months?
Thank you all now been put on Accord
I had same problem with Teva brand because of the filler. Pharmacy now have a note not to dispense Teva to me. I find Wockhart is better for me. Pharmacist was very co operative.
