Naturthroid help

Hi. I was being prescribed Naturthroid when I lived in Wales, but since moving to Scotland, 2 years ago, I’ve had to go back on to levothyroxine. My new GP and hospital has said it’s unavailable for prescription in Scotland. I feel dreadful, weight gain, depression, aching joints etc…

I’ve been told I most likely have fibromyalgia. However, my symptoms only started again after my switch to levothyroxine.

Can anyone please tell me if there is a private practitioner who can help me get back in to Naturthroid? I’m getting desperate…

Hello PTC :

I believe NatureThroid was recalled in 2020 and am not aware it's been relaunched.

There are other brands of Natural Desiccated Thyroid available without a prescription if you don't need an endocrinologist to dose and monitor you.

Yes, I went on a few Stateside sites just to see and drew a blank though other brands are available :

Hi,Naturethyroid was in fact recalled due to potency issues. The company decided not to manufacture again. A nice blow to us users who rely on NDTs.

NP Thyroid was recalled for the same issue. They have since started manufacturing again using new supplier but I’ve been told by them that they do not ship overseas.

Armour is the only other available in the states, but they charge a lot more for same stuff.

I buy NP but it is very expensive

Hi Lynneypin, I’m in Portugal, moved here a bit over a month to retire.Only found out that NDTs are not available here as well as Spain.

I can’t take synthetics because I was allergic to them years ago. So now I have a neighbor back in Florida acting as my drug mule… lol to send new meds.

Good thing I have a decent doctor back in the states, but this is not a permanent fix.

Will need to travel to get a new solution as I don’t have a thyroid, and can’t treat myself. Waiting to see an endocrinologist here to investigate new plan…. If any. Portugal seems to just throw lots of T-4 and that’s it.

Aardvark00, Naturethyroid was in fact recalled due to potency issues. The company decided not to manufacture again.

Are you sure this is correct information about RLC deciding not to manufacture again? Their website still states this:

AVAILABILITY UPDATE

RLC Labs is continuing to work with the FDA to get our products back on the market as soon as possible. getrealthyroid.com/product-...

Hi RedApple,Before I left the states, I contacted the manufacturer of NatureThroid and NPThyroid. NP actually called back and said they had restarted production, and I was able to acquire it. NatureThyroid said at the time that they had no intention of manufacture again, but that was several months back. Both companies used NDT raw material from overseas. Not sure what they were doing with pig thyroids in the states ….

Hi I’m amazed you got Naturthroid prescribed in Wales, I live in North Wales my GP’s and chemist aren’t even aware of such drugs and I was told there was no way they would be allowed. I used to use this drug fir several years from the U.S and it was effective but 2 years ago approx. it stopped working and I found out there were a lot of complaints about it. Sadly I have had to go back on Levo. and gained a lot of weight as a result. The only alternative is Armour which is pretty expensive, although I would like to know just how expensive in total but for a start it has to be prescribed, so that means paying a private Consultant.

I was in north wales, and had to literally go around every independent chemist I could until I found one who would order it, as long as I had a prescription. Then, I had to insist my doctor referred me to endocrinologist in Glan Clwyd hospital. Thankfully the endo was really supportive and said he would prescribe Naturthroid and monitor my bloods. I couldn’t believe the difference I felt. Can’t believe I’ve gone so backwards in my symptoms on levothyroxine!

Oh poor you. I've swapped to Erfa when I couldn't get naturethroid. I have the same issues on thyroxine. If you want to pm me I can tell you where I get a private prescription. Unfortunately my GP won't prescribe , maybe yours will!
