Hi. How long does it take for an increase in levo to work?

I’m on 137mg of levo. I increased to that amount from 125mg in late Nov ‘21. My blood work is good. However it took about 7 weeks to feel an improvement. I felt good for 2/3 weeks. And now I feel up and down. And have now been on 137mg for 9 weeks (or just over 2 months).

Should I be waiting 3-6 months before the new dose is fully stabilized? Thanks guys!

Everybody is slightly different but the general opinion is 6 to 8 weeks to stabilise and get bloods done to see levels. So I would get bloods done and Inc if nec.

Looking at previous posts…can’t see any recent vitamin results

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Are you on strictly gluten free or dairy free diet

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

On T3 or NDT - day before test split daily dose into 3 smaller doses, spread through the day at approx 8 hour intervals, taking last 1/3rd dose 8-12 hours before test

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Hi Apollo_Creed

I was badgering for dose increases when I felt symptoms come back.

The arbitrary 3 months my surgery kept telling me to leave it bore no relation to my bodies need to get onto a full replacement dose.

Also I was “in range “ throughout this period and the only thing that altered as my dose increased was where I sat in the range.
