Palpitations in Hashimoto and thyroid
Depends. What are your levels? Palps can be a symptom of both hypo and hyperthyroidism/over-medication.
Looking at previous posts
Are you still only on 50mcg and 5mcg T3
Always test as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
Day before test divide T3 in half and take last 2.5mcg dose approx 8-12 hours before test
Add most recent results and ranges…thyroid and vitamin levels
Yes, I did all that. Endo says lab results ok, Palps not due to thyroid meds. Thanks
Please add actual results and ranges
Frequently results might be within range, but far from adequate
Approx how much do you weigh in kilo
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
Are you already on strictly gluten free diet, if not get coeliac blood test done BEFORE trialing strictly gluten free diet minimum 3-6 months

I am on vitamin D 2000 iu daily, one baby aspirin 81 , take at lunch
One tablet calcium citrate and D3 at night. For constipation I take isabgole psyllium husk or calm, magnesium supplements daily.
I am not on gluten free, endo doesn’t think necessary. Born in India, wheat is my staple diet, must have few times a week.
I weigh 108 lbs in USA which is about 39 kg
I hope I answered all the questions.
I do daily walk, Tai chi, meditation.
Thanks
I took a picture of blood test but couldn’t attach it, how? Thanks
Tsh0.07. (0.35 to 4.94)
T4 free 1.02. (0.70- 1.48)
T3 1.06 (0.48- 1.59)
T3 free No result? (1.71-3.71)
Vitamins D 32 (30-100)
No Ft3 result
Vitamin D too low. Aiming to improve to at least around 40ng/ml (30-100)
Many thyroid patients need higher dose vitamin D than 2000iu daily, especially if you have dark skin too.
No folate, ferritin and B12 results
Ft4 only 41% through range
No Ft3 result
Total T3 is not a useful test
Total T3 51% through range
Helpful calculator for working out percentage through range
Obviously need Ft3 tested together with Ft4
Plus folate, ferritin, B12

I don’t think any Hashimoto’s patients find it easy, especially initially, adjusting to a strictly gluten free diet, but for majority it can significantly improve symptoms.
Likely to need increase in T3
Adding 2nd 5mcg dose approx 10-12 hours after first
but obviously ideally you need to test Ft4 and Ft3
My endo says increasing T3 will make the palpitations worse
Not necessarily
Palpitations can be due to being under medicated
Or because need more T3 and/or need less or more Levothyroxine
Or low vitamin levels…common if under medicated ….especially low magnesium
Food intolerance or sugar spike other causes
Hives is common with Hashimoto’s

Are you on strictly gluten free diet
Lactose intolerance often improves after year or two on strictly gluten free diet
Hi, yes, I have had this. In my case it has not happened due to over medication. I have had palpatations when I believe i was having a Hashimoto's flare-up and my thyroid was prob producing too much T3 due to the attack. In this instance, other symptoms like anxiety, noise sensitivity and jumpiness were also present. The other instances' for palpatations I have had is if I've eaten something with high sugar. In this case, I can get palps almost straight away or they will appear a few hours later when my blood sugar drops after the initial spike. Too much alcohol can also cause palps when blood sugars plummet later on. So blood sugar stability in general can be a factor.
I have also heard that food intolerances can cause palps in some people and may be worth considering if all other possibilitiess been eliminated.
I am sorry to hear you suffer from this - it is very distressing and disturbing to say the least... Being a fellow-sufferer I decided to tackle my food intolerances (already very active for peppers, cucumbers etc.) and stopped eating wheat. I now have a gluten free diet (or as near as I can knowingly achieve) and my palpitations have ceased . It is, for me at least, miraculous to find this works and I have since read in posts here that others have found this to be the same for them. I hope it works for you.
I was having horrible palpitations along with other horrible symptoms described in Yellow card, while taking levothyroxine in UK. I tried different formulations but it never got better. I soon as I stopped the meds within days they stopped. Now I’m visiting family and friends in Brazil and saw my endocrinologist who advised me to have my dose in one tablet which is Synthroid. Feeling way better now in the same dose. I’m still undergoing some other tests, scans etc but just by changing to a good brand, most of my problems have gone.
So nice to know that you feel so much better. I had been on generic synthroid before. Don’t know if being on synthroid or generic makes a difference.
