So my story is I've remained on a teeny dose (50 mcg levo) since diagnosis but have skirted around subclinical for years. Bloods have been in range since but not optimum so gp kept me on this ridiculous dose.
In Oct this year another user on the forum - who I am eternally grateful to - recommended an endo who they had success with. The endo was on the thyroid uk list as one who is more sympathetic and open to t3. I duly arranged an appt - remotely and....same day!!! His proposal was that TSH should ideally be below 2 - ill give him this 😁 - but more importantly that ft3 and ft4 should sit in the upper 3rd of the range. RESULT!
So he sent a recommendation letter to my gp proposing an increase in meds -75mcg - with a view to regularly reviewing bloods in 6 week increments and to make adjustments inline with the above proposed levels.
My medicheck results (taken at 7.25 am, no food and 24 hours without levo dose) came back today after 6 weeks on 75mcg as:
TSH 2.41 (0.27 - 4.2)
Ft4 16 (12 - 22)
Ft3 4.11 (3.1 - 6.8)
Can you believe I was really pleased??? Given the endos recommendations another increase is needed so I start 100mcg after send the results to my gp today! So pleased. Funnily enough the doctors recommendations that came with the results from medichecks ALSO recommended a lower TSH and T3 and T4 higher in range. There is hope folks. I think its good to share a positive story - I'm nowhere near optimal yet and it looks like my t3 is slightly lower in range than t4 so there might be a conversion issue but I feel that there might be OPTIONS should I need to address this later.
Hang in there everyone and keep fighting for your health.
EDIT - I cannot stress enough how important timings and prep for blood tests are. First thing in the morning without food and 24 hours without thyroxine - you can take it after your bloods. I had another set of bloods taken before seeing endo and they were taken at 1pm and after taking my morning levo (50mcg,) and eaten breakfast. Those results would have shown a completely different picture with a lower TSH and much higher ft3 and ft4 and would have skewed discussions I am certain. Essentially they looked optimal but I felt ANYTHING but. I felt awful.
