Hello there

I'm nearly 8 weeks pregnant and just received my latest thyroid results. I am not seeing my midwife for 2 more weeks and wondering if anyone might have any advice.

I'm currently taking 125mcg Thyroxine and 12.5mcg t3. I increased my Thyroxine in line with the Nice guidelines when I found out I was pregnant from 100mcg

T4 19 (12-22)

T3 4.7 (3.1-6.8)

Tsh 0.03

My Tsh is surpressed as I'm taking t3 so im wondering if my t4 is high enough?

Hi, first of all congrats on your pregnancy. Have you spoken to your GP about your thyroid and implications for you during pregnancy yet? It’s 18 years since my first pregnancy but I was immediately referred to an endocrinologist so that my Hashis could be carefully monitored during it. I think I got a small dose increase (I’ve always had Levo only). Your numbers look similar to what mine always were (apart from T3 as until recently I never knew mine). I seem to also remember my babies were tested soon after they were born to make sure their thyroid levels were ok too. Good luck with everything!

Yes I spoke to my GP and he just said I need to discuss it with my midwife but my appointment still hasn't come through. Hopefully the increase is OK.

If you have been diagnosed with Hashimotos or similar, then your pregnancy should be managed, from start to finish, by a consultant. Midwives (in my experience) don’t always understand the full impact of thyroid issues. At the very minimum, you should have an endocrinologist talking to tue midwife to help manage your care. I didn’t have this and I had an underweight baby. But i was lucky he was ok and my thyroid wasn’t too bad at that stage. Look at the NICE guidelines for managing pregnant and UAT/Hashimotos. You should not be managing your meds on your own without support. Demand you get the right care x

Hi! Congratulations on your pregnancy. The protocol for pregnancy is :'Once you know you are pregnant it is recommended that the levothyroxine dosage is increased immediately. This is often achieved by doubling the dose on two days of the week or by a daily 25-50mcg increase. You should then arrange follow up blood tests.' btf-thyroid.org/hypothyroid...

In my first pregnancy in Brasil, I had it increased immediately despite having normal results, but in my latest pregnancy here in the UK, I only had it increased in the last trimester, after finding out TSH was high. that potentially could have caused serious problems. So, my advice is, insist on being followed by a consultant and take as much information on guidelines as you can get with you.
