Thyroid in pregnancy

Hello,

I am currently pregnant from a fresh transfer and taking 125 levothyroxine due to Hashimotos.

My TSH was 1.2 before transfer a few weeke ago. I have read that medication should be increased by 25mg ASAP. However, I do not have an endocrinologist and have not been referred to a thyroid clinic. Should I be pushing for this? Even so, the referral time could take forever.

I should also add we have never had any routine NHS investigations for IVF and have funded all of this privately. We only recently found out about Hashimotos (although I have been taking meds for a few years) by having what are simply routine tests in Spain-even private clinics in the UK don’t seem to run many.

So, as with all of our fertility journey, we are just floundering about and happening to find out things here and there by chance- self-advocating and trying to persuade medical professionals to help us.

Any advice would be appreciated.

welcome to the forum

Were Ft4 and Ft3 tested at last test?

Suggest getting FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing done ASAP

Request via GP ideally

Or test privately

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Exactly what vitamin supplements are you currently taking

What were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at last test

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Have you had coeliac blood test done

Or are you already on strictly gluten free diet

Thank you for this very detailed reply.

I will look through my paperwork to find all of these answers.

When you say vitamin testing, which ones do you mean please? Have only recently had Vit D which was fine and I take 1000 of it daily. This test says vitamins are included so would you recommend this?

Thank you

Yes ….that’s the one I linked to in initial reply

10% off with code THYROIDUK10

You need vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin levels tested

Would have thought IVF clinic should have tested these?

What was vitamin D result?

In all separate IVF rounds in the UK, (3 with 2 separate clinics and 1 with the NHS) they have never tested any of these. Results have only come from private investigations.

My GP has done a TSH one and a vitamin D on request but that’s it. Makes me very cross I’ve been though all this and people haven’t been checking quite basic information.

Vit D result was 120

ferretin 100ugl (and other below)

Quick update on my post from the other day and blood results. I am currently pregnant from a fresh IVF transfer and taking 125 levothyroxine due to Hashimotos. My TSH was 1.2 before transfer a few weeks ago. It is now 1.5.

My antibodies are very high- 88 (they were 55 in July). I have asked to be referred to an endocrinologist but fear this will take too long. I am looking to find a private one but I wondered if anyone could help me interpret my results and have any suggestions.

My Gp says he doesn’t want to increase thyroxine as it’s a high dose and my TSH is under 2, which is what IVF specialists want for treatment. Here are the results of my other tests:

Vit D -140 ,

 Folate- 23+

,Ferretin- 117 (range 15-300)

B12- 264 (range 130-900)

TSH - 1.51T3- 3.9 (range 2.4-6)

T4-14.1 (range 8.9- 17.3)

TPO Antibodies 85 (55 in July)

Thank you so much
