Hi. can anyone help me with results for an active b12 b/test which I have just received from medichecks.

Result >150. ( Range. 37.5pmol.-188) to me its ok ?

Result from Sept NHS. >2000 this is total. (range200-900)

Had the active b/test done due to increasing b12 levels for 3 years, no supplements taken.

Advice / comments appreciated.

Presumably the machine isn't calibrated to measure higher than 150. Your result is obviously higher than that but the machine can't give an accurate figure.

With both Total and Active B12 high, you might want to discuss with your GP to see if there is anything causing these increasing levels. My surgery freaked out at a result of Total B12 around 1200 (150-900) until I told them I take a B Complex which contained some B12.

Medichecks dr's. report did suggest having FBC & LIVER b/tests I have had them done came back normal, labs comment raised b12, after waiting for 1 month I had phone call with the Dr. 2weeks ago, she said she would email an endrorinlogist.Thank you for your reply.

Cause of high B12 needs investigation

Personally I had high B12 until I started vitamin B complex

B12 needs other B vitamins to be balanced

If other B vitamins are low (eg Thiamine) might cause high B12

I have phoned the surgery & give them the results for active b12, & also found out an email has been sent to endocrinologist, so I now wait.

Hi Harlech, I’m just about to order a test. Believe Medichecks use a couple of labs for testing Active B12. Which one tested yours?
