“Do blood test 5 hours after taking T3.” Really?

Hi all.

I’m doing a blood test in a week or so ahead of an appointment with my endo early December. I usually follow the protocol recommended here for timings of test and when to take last doses of T4 and T3. However, the endo has requested I do a test 5 hours after my first T3 dose. (I do 3 lots of 2.5mcg at 6am, 2pm and 10pm). I’m afraid if I follow his instruction it might show my FT3 as being high and lead him to reduce my dose.

Exactly! I ignore it when the endo says that and do my usual 8 hours. Of course I do not tell them that. As long as I know for interpreting my results thats ok.If they ask I say that I follow the same protocol for all blood tests so there is comparison. If they were to stipulate "Do you have your blood test x hours after a dose?" I would reply "That's what I have been told to do."

All the endos I have seen have asked for bloods 2- 4 hours after T3 dose. This is so they measure the peak. However we do not live with the peak in our blood. It is short-lived. We live with the in-betweens.

I would stick to your usual protocol and keep mum.

Yes, I don’t understand the obsession with measuring the peak 🤷🏻‍♀️

In any case, you’ve given me a good way to keep with my usual protocol and not outright lie if asked.
