Referral to endo for T3?

Do you always have to be referred to an endocrinologist to get T3 prescribed on the NHS? If so then can you ask to see one in another area (where they may prescribe it?)

Yes it needs to be prescribed and supervised initially by an endo. I doubt it would work out of area because once the endo trial is over it falls on your GP to provide it.

Tuxi1,

Yes, T3 meds have to be prescribed by an endocrinologist on the NHS and you have a right to choose your consultant/healthcare professional in any area, and so become under the regs/guidence of that areas CCG.

However, if & when care is moved back to primary the prescribing falls back into your own CCG and GP's care and this is when the T3 prescription risks going awry.
