I haven't had a sense of smell for ages, (12+ months) it was believed to be through allergies but after reading an article online I am now wondering if it is in fact to do with my 150mcg dose of levothryoxine??
Can anyone offer any insights or information,?? I'd really appreciate it

My sense of smell has been deteriorating for the past five years or so. I put it down to age. I am 70. It might be linked to hypothyroidism as I have been under medicated for about the same length of time having moved house and surgery about that time. Now back on a sensible level of treatment, not noticed any improvement in sense of smell however.
My teenage son has always suffered extreme hay-fever and would have copious heavy noise bleeds several times a day. He lost his sense of smell 5 years ago. At the time he lost it (age 12) he had also been suffering hypothyroid symptoms for a couple of years. I can't be sure what caused it but his UAT was still undiagnosed/untreated so i can say it wasn't thyroxine in his case. Loss of sense of smell can also be attributed to low B12 which is something else my son has issues with. He now gets regular injections but some neurological symptoms of deficiency can become permanent if not treated early.
