Tinnitus in right ear, head pressure and spacey all the time!!

Hi all, I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism back in January this year, put on 50gm of Levo, which was increased to 75mg in June. Still feel just as crappy as I did in January. I have a understanding doctor who is willing to increase until 125mg base on my weight. I have a really tight right shoulder also. I feel my symptoms are more likely to be of neurological in nature?? Does anyone else with hypo have the same symptoms? Did they eventually subside once on the right does?

Hi Caroline, I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I have just amended my post. Thank you....although I have wondered about whether I have your condition, as I have very bad brain fog, tinnitus- can this be misdiagnosed as Hypothyroidism?

I haven’t been tested for hyper parathyroidism although I’m going to get checked as I have kidney stones and Cushings is linked to HP and MEN gene I have bad brain fog also it hasn’t got any better the majority of people with HP/ Cushings have brain fog - but with Cushings you secreting cortisol which causes lots of problems sometimes it’s hard very difficult to get a reading for a high cortisol but hopefully you haven’t that but maybe get you’re calcium etc checked x

You are describing me a number of years ago!

My issues turned out to be complex and it took a long time but being correctly medicated ( I'm T3 only) eventually resolved the problems. I suspect you will need less recovery time.

Lad test blood tests after taking 50mg for 10 weeks came back as o.k? Ex previous post

I very much doubt that your labs were OK! They were probably in range but that does not mean you are optimally medicated. On 75mcg you have plenty room to increase the dose.

Post any labs you have, you are legally entitled to request then from your surgery.

However for complete thyroid function analysis the following need to be tested

TSH, FT4, FT3, vit D, vit B12, folate, ferritin and antibodies.

Further info here - thyroiduk.org/if-you-are-hy...

Many of us test privately because GPs only test TSH which is a useless guide for diagnosis....see above link.

You sound undermedicated and badly in need of more levo, request further tests or test privately and post results here for advice. You are due another test (soon) after the June increase

I don't think you need to be concerned about other conditions at this stage. It takes time to resolve hypothyroidism, there is no quick cure unfortunately. I hope your GP is knowledgeable as well as understanding....many are not, which is why over 100,000 patients have arrived here desperate for help.

Good luck

DD

Hi DippyDame, did you Tinnitus eventually gone away? My brain fog and tinnitus only seem to be on the right hand side of my head, as does my tight shoulder muscle. I have felt like this for almost 18 months now and it’s driving me insane. I also feel like I have a very low tolerance to stress theses days. Things that wouldn’t phase me in the past seem to really stress me out. Am praying that I get to my optimal dose soon. Can I ask what you ended levelling out at? Thanks

It drove me crazy too Roacher10 , as did a stuffy nose, brain fog and much else....cleared now.

Interesting you mention feeling spacey, I used to be talking to someone and felt they were moving into the distance....very weird. I was much younger then, knew nothing about thyroid disease and medics hadn't a clue....apart from "this little white pill (levo) will make you better". In my case it didn't.

It took me years and much reading to discover I wasn't able to tolerate levo and that my T4 to T3 conversion was very poor and that I have a form of thyroid hormone resistance.

Stress is a hypo symptom...my tolerance level hit the floor.

Don't worry....it can be fixed!

It's very unlikely you will need my level of replacement hormone ...I now need 75mcg T3-only but have had a much bigger dose in the past.

You may be fine on 100 or 150 mcg...keep testing. Despite what medics say FT3 is the important reading.... T3 is the active hormone required in every cell in the body in a constant and adequate supply. If your conversion is good things should be straightforward on a bigger dose of levo if not there is the option of adding T3.

We're all in this thyroid mess together!

Thank you for your message, it’s very reassuring that I am not going crazy🤪. I understand and the weird sensation that your talk about and the stuffy nose. I have a weird feeling every time am stationary in my car, it always feels like it’s rolling back!! Just got my latest bloods back, THS at 1.5 and T4 at 16 - doc seems to think these are well within range. Got a phone appointment next Tuesday so hoping she will still increase Levo. Could my readings be right but my conversation not great? Thanks for any advice

Every test has its own range so the numbers themselves make sense. Even if you’re in range, you can be symptomatic. Conversion to T3 is key. And even T3 that looks like it’s in range can have symptoms.
