Pelic girdle issue

Hi all, I never had a pelvic girdle when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism over ten years ago but for the past five years dispite being on replacement hormone I have acquired one.

I noticed the muffin type fat around my middle but did not know why I stored weight here or known the correct terminology for the condition until today.

Apparently this condition is caused by impaired mitochondrial oxidation capacity, abnormal glycogenlysis and a insulin resistant state of cell which should be corrected if on the correct dose of replacement hormone.

This above condition can result in many issues that can affect all our muscles including our heart an brain which may be indicated by what is mentioned as brain fog.

There are certain factors which can increase this problem. Alcohol, strenuous exercise, electrolyte imbalances, high protein consumption, viral infections, sleep acnea, renal issues, statins, antipsychotic drugs and some beta blockers.

In another paper it stated that we can reduce the effects if they are caused by lifestyle habits. The above issue can be made better by reducing cholesterol levels if too high naturally by adopting a diet specific for purpose. They also mentioned that 30 minutes exercise five days a week could improve muscle strength as long as muscle myopathy test has been negative.

Pretty certain you have always had a pelvic girdle, otherwise, your legs would have fallen off. It's part of your skeleton.

Thanks Greygoose, the article did mention something about how the condition can lead to prelonged muscle contraction which results in slowed calcium uptake. It mentioned something about sarcoplasmic reticulum which I know nothing about so would appreciate any addition info.

The first link is interesting , thankyou. Hypothyroid Myopathy is not something i've read much about. Are you saying you have hypothyroid myopathy of the muscles of the pelvic girdle ?

(as GG pointed out .. you have always had a pelvic girdle.. i hope!)

this is a weakness /atrophy of specific muscles, caused by low thyroid hormone , and the treatment for it is to correct the hypothyroidism ,with thyroid hormones.

I'm not clear how/why you think this relates to 'muffin fat around your middle' ?

have you had raised Creatine Kinase levels ?

Yes I do believe I have weaken muscles around the pelvic girdle. Wether I fall under that diagnosis of muscle myopathy due to being under medicated or wether one of the other conditions has caused the problem is unknown because I can tick several of the variables which can lead to condition, strenuous exercise being probably another main reason for my particular weakening of those areas. Until today I would call that region the lower abs and have never been able to strengthen that area with exercise. The shoulders were also an area I had limited strength when arms above head eg doing my hair.

The articles do mention situations apart from low thyroid hormone that can also increases CK.

As far as the muffin top relates , most of the abdominal muscles are toned except the area around the pelvic girdle which is also the area were there is no muscle tone, which results in that area hanging over like a muffin cake.

My latest test shows creatinine within range not sure if creatinine and creatinine kinase are same on blood result test. I'm guessing going of symptoms and lifestyle that yes I'm pretty certain I have had increased creatinine kinase on many occasions, but wether it exists when I haven't been exercising I haven't a clue.
