My pre-letter worked and I have more T3!

I just wanted to rejoice for a small moment as my letter that I sent ahead of time worked - my doctor was in complete agreement with me that we should increase T3! woo hoo! I feel this conversation would have been more difficult without having done that.

I have been taking it all in one go and its been working great just wearing out occasionally at night time - any thoughts on whether I add it to the start of the day with the rest of my dose or take 5 of the 25mcg at night? shaws i assume you would suggest taking it all in one go, as before?

Link to previous post with draft of the letter I sent (i included summary blood results with it too)

I started off taking my T3 in the morning with Levo but found I crashed in the afternoon. After speaking to a different endo about it she suggested I would do better to split the dose. That way I wasn’t full of energy in the morning but with nothing left afternoon/evening. So I took 1/4 dose early 5-6am, another 10am, 2pm and 6pm. I found this much better. No crash in the afternoon and still ok until bedtime

Great news jsy_girl! I think it’s trial and error re timings….. I’ve trialled a few to work out what’s best for me.

Brilliant. Well it was a good letter 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I agree with Buddy195. Trial and error. Like you have done so far. Such a pain isn’t it? Well done though. Very pleased you got what you wanted 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻 .

I follow Dr John Lowe's advice (he was an Adviser to TUK before his accidental death) and as a teenager he started searching for reasonsof what could cause some people to take their own lives as happened in his family.

He was an expert in the use of T3 - would never, ever, prescribe levothyroxine but NDTs or T3 if a patient was 'resistant'

Dr L stated that one dose of T3 saturated all of the T3 receptor cells and I believe we have millions and it sent out waves throughout the day.

I take one dose of T3 when I awake with one glass of water and wait an hour before eating. I'm fine on that but occasionally may have to make a small adjustment in dose.

Dr L stated that one daily dose enabled T3 to saturate all of the T3 receptor cells and then that would send out 'waves' throughout the day (up to three days for some people). I've had no problems and also ensure my other vitamins/minerals are optimal.

Sometimes the difficulty for us is that we may not be prescribed T3 and sourcing it elsewhere appears to be problematic - even more now due to 'brexit'.

I have a normal life in which T3 is a necessary part. Of course B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate have to be good too.

I'm interested to know 'Shaws', have you ever suffered from low morning cortisol, or taken T3 as a CT3M dose to help with that. I'm wondering if one dose a day would work for someone in that position, such as myself?

I don't think I've ever had cortisol checked. I am unaware of CT3M dosing. On T3 I feel well and my a.m. dose works fine for me. I have no ups/downs.

I have done an experiment re T3 dose lasting up to three days. I took my a.m. dose and did not take any on day 2 or day 3 and that one dose lasted. I took T3 again on the fourth day.

I’ve not tried taking it in one dose but after this explanation shaws, I’m going to give it a try! 👍

There's nothing to lose by doing a trial. Dr Lowe was the expert, especially on T3 (which he took himself in the middle of the night) which ensured nothing was in his stomach to interfere with T3s uptake and make sure your stomach is empty.

I take half dose at bedtime & have been awake a lot, so thinking I will try full dose T3 on waking with Levo. Thanks shaws!

I did as shaws suggested when I was on my previous dose and it really helped me smooth the benefit until say 9pm when I would sometimes feel I needed a bit more so I’m going to now take the new full dose and hope that helps it to last all day! Fingers crossed. If not I’ll have to return to split dosing. But this really worked better for me on the whole just need to find the right dose.
