Hi guys I’m trying for my second baby and I found out a month ago I have under active tryroid!I have been speaking to my GP and am getting my 4 week bloods next week to see what my levels are now! I’ve been currently put on 50mgs to start with and they will see from this bloods to see what I should be on to make me below 2.

What was anyone else on when trying to conceive with thyroid?

Hello Krin, welcome to the forum

Was 50mcg your starting dose? Usually it’s increased upwards by 25mcg. It’s done gradually eg every 6 weeks as It’s takes time to adjust to the doses, and hit the right level.

Do you have your test results?

Get into habit of viewing your test results and learning how to understand them to compare your progress.

The best way to track your results is by online access to your GP record. Set this up if your practice offers it. If not obtain printouts of your results via reception (don’t ask doctor). Do not accept verbal or hand scribbled notes you need a printed copy, with a sample date & ranges (ranges vary between labs so essential).

For full thyroid function you need

TSH, a pituitary hormone which raises when thyroid levels are low should be around 1

FT4 which is thyroxine and becomes low when under-active, should be in top third of range once taking levo

FT3 which is the active thyroid hormone, converted from T4 which also drops. This also needs to rise be be in top part of range.

90% of hypothyroidism is caused by autoimmune thyroiditis. Sometimes antibodies are tested to confirm this but not always as hypothyroidism whatever the cause is treated the same.

Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) and Thyroglobulin (Tg)

Being hypothyroid can result in some low nutrient, which need to be optimal for replacement hormone to work well.

Folate

Ferritin

B12

Vitamin D

See if GP will test for these, if not there are private testing options.

Hi Krin. My daughter has Hashimoto thyroidism and was diagnosed before she conceived her baby. She was on 125mcg of Levothyroxine and as soon as she found out she was pregnant she quickly increased to 150mcg as thyroxine or lack of can negatively impact the baby. See link below scroll down to the hypothyroidism section and they will explain it much better than me. I wish you well conceiving.

Hi I was trying for a second baby when I was told I had hashimotos. I was advised not to get pregnant until my levels were optimal. Then once you are pregnant they know what dosage you need to be on for you and baby.

Hi yes but I had to have IVF because by then I was over 40, but, everyone is different so try not to worry about that.

Yes he was worth the wait! With Hashi’s you have antibodies. Have a look at the information on here. Some of the members are very knowledgeable and they have really helped me.Get your iron checked, vit B , vit D, get everything checked. I have followed the advice on here and feel much better.

Keep going, you can do it!!!

Good luck xx

Thanks so much everyone for your helpful comments! Yeah I was started on 50mg! I have a blood test on Monday to see where I am and the GP said they will increase my dosage to make sure I’m under 1! I had my vitamins checked luckily all is ok! I have been taking pregnacare conception too!

My first baby was a breeze he came first time round and I didn’t have thyroid then! So when trying for second I knew something wasn’t quite right!

Luckily everything else is working ok! My periods are stop on and so regular and I have been using ovulation kits which shows I’m ovulating!

Looking forward to having another little bubba!

Thanks I’m happy to be on this group as it’s nice to be around people who are going or been through the same!

Really appreciate your wonderful helpful comments xxx

Hi there, I became hyper after my first child was born and ended up having most of .y thyroid removed, this was over 30 years ago. I was left without any treatment for nearly 2 years, no levothyroxine at all. Within that time I conceived my second child, it wasn't until after he was born that I eventually started on the levo. I am so pleased you have been started on your Levo and wish you well with thoughts of a new baby. Good Luck.
