Hidden causes of thyroid disorder?
I don’t doubt that having a good diet, reducing stress and doing all you can to normalise the function of your gut is helpful.
But I’m not sure whether that can do more than reduce or delay the effects of hypothyroidism. And if your hypothyroidism is due to genetic factors or a pituitary/hypothalamus issue, then it can only help if you can get yourself healthier—but getting yourself healthier is likely to need you to take thyroid hormones once things have deteriorated to the point where you notice you have symptoms of hypothyroidism. If you’re low in thyroid hormones, your gut function is likely to be compromised. You can try throwing good nutrition at it but if you can’t absorb much of it because of a sluggish gut caused by unmediated hypothyroidism, it’s probably not going to work.
And let’s get real. How many people can actually consistently feed themselves a top quality diet while at the same time reducing stress (which for most of us would mean giving up our jobs and having the new stress of reduced income).
Please don’t misunderstand, I like Dr Berg—but he’s a “going low carb cures everything” doctor. And while that does help some, it doesn’t help all.
