Some of you may be aware of Elaine Moore and her excellent website about Graves Disease and Autoimmune Disease.

On the 3rd June, Elaine posted about her health:

As promised, I'm sharing my health information. According to a large recent study radioiodine for Graves' disease is known to cause several cancers, primarily breast and abdominal cancer. Cancers typically develop 30 years after exposure to radioiodine.

I had RAI 30 years ago. I now have peritoneal carcinomatosis, a metastatic disease I'd never heard of before. I'll be having surgery June 15th followed by chemotherapy. I'll keep up the website until surgery but afterwards I'll likely need some time away. But that remains to be seen. I'm hoping for an easy surgery and recovery. Prayers are appreciated! Thanks for all your kind wishes. Keep well, Elaine

We all wish her well in this difficult time and hope she will be well again soon.

Sad news for her and I wish her a speedy recovery.

For every study that says those of us who have had RAI are doomed there is another one that says there is no added or very low risk of cancer so I shall continue to believe the latter 🙂

Yes its related to dose and number of treatments, so cancer obviously higher risk than Graves.

Thanks for posting, will send her a personal message as she didn't mention it on her facebook page yet.

It's posted on the main website in Forums under Announcements :

A fellow forum member drew my attention to this, and Elaine seems to be in low-key.
